Salam or Asalamu-alaikum?

Asalamu- alaikum brothers and sisters,

I am from Kashmir and a new member to this forum. I've a question to ask : Is it appropriate and permitted, just to say or write Salam instead of Asalamu-alaikum?

Assalamu alaikum, welcome to the forum. Yeah you can say salam instead of assalamu alaikum, "salam" means peace and assalamu alaikum means peace be upon you. This can be done with inshaa'Allah or insh'Allah or insha'Allah your pretty much using like a slang or a shortcut, you know when people say whats up? The correct way of saying it would what is up so... Yeah same thing basically. But when someone greets you with assalamu alaikum then you should greet them with something better like assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, because you get more reward.

The correct way is to say as it is written. Also I read this quote

'Abdul-Qaadir al-Jeelaani: If someone only greets you with the words "Salaam" then do not greet them back, rather let them know it's not an Islaamic greeting (i.e. they should instead say assalaamu alaikum) (Aadaab ash-Sharee'ah v. 1 p. 436)
