:salam2:
Just came to say 'thank you' for your replies to the other post, but couldn't resist replying to this thread.
We believe that the Bible contains the words of God and other material besides. In fact, the Qur'an refers to the authentic scriptures and the forgeries in the possession of Jews and Christians.
And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allah ," but it is not from Allah . And they speak untruth about Allah while they know. (Quran 3:78)
Compare it to; Jeremiah 8:8
How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain. (The new american bible makes it more clear, 'What we have is written by scribes with their lying pen).
We know about Allah swt through his attributes. There are attributes of God that are in the bible that we believe in. Others we reject because these are either based on Church authroity or these are attributes scribes have written with their own hand and attributed to God. Sister Asja has quoted some I'll mention few others;
We says divinity of Jesus (pbuh) can only be based on church authority because there is not a single explicit verse in the bible where Jesus (pbuh) claimed he was God. In addition Bible says God is not man:
I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city. (Hosea 11:9).
Christians say that God is "immutable", i.e. unchanging. How then can it be said that He passed through the state of death? How could He grow in knowledge?
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. (Luke 2:52).
When we forgive a debt it means that we expect no payment. "The Lord's Prayer" asks God to forgive our debts and sins the way we forgive our debtors. Why then does Jesus' have to pay a price for our sins?
(Mathew 6:12) And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
(Luke 11.4) And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
Christians claims that Jesus (pbuh) 'paid for there sins' and another claim is 'God forgave their sins'. If a debt is forgiven than it is not paid for and if it paid for than it is not forgiven. You can't have it both ways. In addition it goes against the Lords prayers and James 2:26.
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Thus the bible says that both Faith and works are important. That's exactly what the Quran says (chapter 103)
By time,
Indeed, mankind is in loss,
Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.
A Muslim believes in the religion of Jesus but sees mainline Christianity as a religion constructed about Jesus. Thus for many Christians today its matters more as to how Jesus (pbuh) looked like than what his message was.
Depends what they believe in;
They are not [all] the same; among the People of the Scripture is a community standing [in obedience], reciting the verses of Allah during periods of the night and prostrating [in prayer]. (3:113)
Among them are those who believe in the same God (Allah swt) as we do, rest of them don't.
