First, its haram for that Muslim to sell haram food whether its to a Muslim or non-muslim.

It is Haram for a Muslim to sell something that is Haram for him to eat or use. The Prophet -peace be upon him- said, “If Allah makes Haram the consumption of something, He also makes Haram its transaction.” (Musnad Ahmad, Hadith no. 2546) Islam is a consistent religion. When it says that something is bad and forbidden, then it wants Muslims to avoid it for themselves and for others. If a Muslim sells Haram things, he is not only inconsistent in his behavior; he is also ridiculing the law of Allah. He does not care what is right and what is wrong. It is right if other Muslims avoid business with this person. This will be a good reminder for this person to come back to the rules of Allah.

As far as non-Muslims are concerned, you cannot impose the rules of the Shari’ah on them. If you have to buy things from their stores and eat at their restaurant, you make sure that you buy Halal things and eat Halal food. Of course it is always good that Muslims patronize Halal businesses and try their best to do business with those merchants that observe the rules of Shari’ah.

I know a "muslim" who works in a liquor store. The brother is from the middle east and claims that this is the only job he could get. I offered (?) him a job and he said it was too hard. Says he only sells to kufars anyway, so what harm? I couldn't believe it!

Something happened akin to the above to me. There are only two places to get halaal meat here on the island. I used to think there were three places but found out I was wrong. There are two streetside stands and both claim to sell halaal meat...only one does. Here is the following conversation I had:

Me: I understand you sell halaal bar-b-que?

Vendor: Yes I do! Do you want chicken or beef?

(I feel uneasy)

Me: Before I buy can I ask you what halaal is?

Vendor: It means beef or chicken.

Me:Yes, but where did you purchase this? (I know what countries import Halaal here on the island.

Vendor: It's from the island...here.

See the problem is there are Muslims here who think if something is simply beef or chicken then it's Zibyah (sp?). They don't realize that it still has to be slaughtered a certain way to be truly halaal.
