Serving the country.

BADTASTEBEARS

Fear Allah
Assalamualaikum.

Well here in Singapore every male has to serve the country for 2 years. Its called National Service(NS). Basically each male individual will be posted to either in the army, police or civil defence.

And since i'll be going there soon and Singapore is a not a Muslim country, so the officers or whomevers in charge there probably wont let me pray.

Well lets say if I asked them if I could pray and if they declined, can I continue to pray even if I defy their authority for Allah's sake? And you know how the army's are like if you disobey them.

I won't wanna disobey Allah. I don't mind being tortured by the authorities whatsoever, just as long as I'm able to pray, I'll insyaAllah be fine.

wassalam.

Well Singapore has 15% muslim population and I believe their rights are recognized. I've seen the Malays, who are the ethnic Muslim majority, serve the force.

Assalamu alaikum my brother.

Alhamdulilahi for attaining this stage and also congratulations.

firstly, you should understand that Allah SWA created us purposely for His worship and there is no obedience to any creature in the course of disobeying the creator.

secondly when filling the form(s) of undergoing such service, if there is column for religion fill it with islam that will help you. ( coz is like you are giving them an inside)

thirdly, try to meet those that are your instructors ( i.e in Nat. service) and explain to them the obligations that are required of you as muslim example like 5 daily prayers so that they allow to be off salat when time is due. try this at the initial stage and also be good ambassador of islam by doing the best of your ability in discharging your duties

lastly always try to be optimistic not pessmistic. May Allah see you thru and may He be with you.

As Salamu 'Alaykum,

One of the few course that I didn't get an "A" in was Criminal Justice. The Professor said that he felt that every young person should have to spend two years in either the army, the police, or some other civil service job. Being older than most of the kids in the class, I said out loud that it was a stupid idea. I want my police to be well trained and dedicated professions. I thought making military service a requirement mean risking great minds to the possibility of getting them killed in one of America's little wars. And, that from eighteen to twenty-one should be a time of transition from youth to adulthood, and since the brain doesn't even finish developing until about 24 or 25 it is ridiculous to require young men and women to perform in dangerous environments where they are incapable of recognizing danger. Which, by the way, is why I was such a great soldier because the area of my brain that recognizes danger and causes of to be careful and cautious was developed in me at 17-21.

Apparently this professor had a "god complex" and wasn't interested in intellectual debate because I remember I aced all the tests and he still gave me a poor grade.

As a Muslim, I would hate to be forced to serve in the military when America is at war with Muslim countries. During the initial stages of the Iraq invasion, I heard that Morocco sent a few dozen bomb detecting monkeys which I found hilarious since Monkeys were staging the war on Hussein. I was recently told that the accusation against Hussein for gassing Iraqis was false and that it was done by another country entirely. I don't know if that is factual or not.

I don't know much about your country, but I will remember you in my dua and, Insha Allah, you will be able to pray.

As Salamu 'Alaykum,

My first five months in Vietnam I carried weapons and used them. When I converted to Christianity from Atheism, I told them I would carry a gun any more. I was a medic so they couldn't require me to carry a gun. But it made the guys on my recon team mad. They asked me what I would do if an enemy was about to shoot me and a rifle was laying next to me. I said I would pray. They asked me what I would do if an enemy was about to shoot one of them and their was a rifle next to me. I said I would shout a warning and pray. I think that was my last mission with them.
