Sitting during prayer.

Asalaamu alaykum,

I've had an issue with my knee/knees (sometimes it'd be one, sometimes both) ever since I was around 16 or 17 called "runners knee". It's not that cumbersome except that it interferes with my sitting when im praying. I cant bend my knee to the point of sitting (like in the salaah) without feeling pain. So I thought on it myself and thought it'd be best if I assumed the sitting position of the last rak'ah (which i dont feel any pain at all in my knee) on all my sitting positions during salaah.

But now i've been thinking about it more, and i'm afraid that i'm not doing prayer correctly due to this. If anybody has any information on this give me some advice on it inshallah.

Assalamu alikom!

I have a similar problem, and I have been told that if you cannot sit properly it is okay to use a different sitting posture, or even to use a chair. I therefore sit with legs crossed in front of me (what we in the US call "Indian style" or for the young kids "criss cross applesauce").

I have not yet been told that I cannot use this position, but I am not really sure it is acceptable. Most people have told me to use a chair, but I prefer the leg crossing if it is acceptable.

I am interested in hearing the response of others!

So if using a chair is permissable, then moving my left foot out from under me to the right (slightly) should be just fine.... Sitting in a chair is too much, when I can just do that....

Don't get me started on leg crossing, i havent crossed my legs since i was a kid so my muscles of my inner thigh are a little too tight... I'm slowly re-learning again (trying to stay crosslegged during tasbeeh after salaah)... :)

If you can cross your left foot to the right..that will be good. Allah did not mean to burden us...so do not force if you can't. If you can't cross but you are able to sit on both of you leg without being crosslegged, that would be acceptable also. You use chair only in situation you really can sit on the floor for whatever reason.
