stoning monkeys?

can someone please explain this hadith to me? Is it possible for them to be adulterous? Jazakallah khair


Volume 5, Book 58, Number 188:
Narrated 'Amr bin Maimun:

During the pre-lslamic period of ignorance I saw a she-monkey surrounded by a number of monkeys. They were all stoning it, because it had committed illegal sexual intercourse. I too, stoned it along with them.

I just want to make a remark- This is pretty weird but this is before the revelation and has nothing to do with the Prophet.

"pre-lslamic period of ignorance" - ie before Islam came around.

Correction; Amr ibn Maymun is a Tabi`i. He accepted Islam in the days of the Prophet - upon him peace - without seeing him.

they might mean ere like he is a believer ..or follower both give same idea anyway
