Stop the traffik

This is something which i saw on tv which i thought was sad and i think we all need to think about it inshallah.

Its a campaign to stop people traffiicing....which is now the 2nd biggest crime in the world, that is second to the trade of weapns like guns and stuff. This campaign also coincides with the abolition of slavery. But sadly the truth is, slavery has NEVER been abolished....

The particular section i would like to draw your attention to is the chocolate part.
Almost half of the world's cocoa is grown in Cote d'ivoire ( aka ivory coast to the older generation) where children who have been trafficked are forced to work to pick cocoa.


There is a list on the web site to see which chocolate is fair trade and who do not use these cocoa plantations.

Alhamdulillah, green and blacks is fair trade so yummy yummy for my tummy.

And for those who wish to know, cocoa is a nut....which makes is a vegetable which counts as one of the five a day and is full of vitamins..........this applies only to the world of amy :muslim_child: :muslim_child: :muslim_child: :muslim_child: :muslim_child: :muslim_child:

Only the slave trade was ever abolished, and only in certain countries (Europe, US, etc.). Slavery itself in Europe and the US continued long after the abolition of the trade. At the time of "abolition", keeping and working slaves was still perfectly legal, only the transportation of slaves was outlawed. In the "West" it was eventually outlawed forever, but it obviously continues right to this day, in various ways, in various countries and cultures, and to varying degrees of legality.

In my opinion there is no such thing as fair trade. The west is very selfish and only do things to benefit them, they are business minded people who use these farmers in 3rd world countries to grow things for them at very low prices and they sell them here at very high prices and the people in the developing countries remain poor, and still live in mud huts for all the effort they put in growing things to be sold in big supermarket chains. Where is the fairness in this, it is only fair for the 'businesses not the farmers.
