Hello,

I am interested in obtaining a better understanding of Islam and Muhammad. I've read the Quran and would like to read Sunnah, Hadith, and Adhaadeeth. Can someone please tell me how many Sunnahs and Hadiths there are and the order in which to read? In addition, are there any preferred translations (into English)? I took a look on Amazon.com but, confusion comes over me when trying to decide what to buy. And, what is a suggested reading for getting to know Muhammad (history etc...)?

Thank you :)

hello to you too .what is a suggested reading for getting to know Muhammad (history etc...) i would recommend this book

Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtum
(THE SEALED NECTAR)
Memoirs of the Noble Prophet [pbuh]
by Saifur Rahman al-Mubarakpuri.

SUNNAH this is the actions and sayings of the holy prophet may peace and blessing of ALLAH be upon him and through reading the hadith you will find his sunnah(i.e what he use to say and do) for this i would recommend authentic hadith.

Sahih Bukhari
Sahih Muslim

The Sealed Nectar by Mubarakpuri is very good. it gives a progressive step by step of the autobiography of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). his birth, childhood, early life as a trader, his first marriage, the first encounter with Gabriel, his message that God is One, his struggles with the meccans and so on.

here is the online version of the book:

there is also a lot of info on the net too.

here is a compendium of muslim texts on the univeristy of southern california's website:

http://www.usc.edu/schools/college/crcc/engagement/resources/texts/

the book of Holy Prophet's sayings (Ahadeeth) are categorised so you might find it easier to study.

just click 'The Hadith' and you can see all four compilers works. sometimes ppl get confused because they cant understand who the tribes are, who are the characters the Prophet (PBUH) was talking to, what was the situation, was it war time, was it trade time on that moment when the saying was said.

if it gets a little overwhelming you can always buy dvds of zakir naik, yusuf estes, ahmed deedat, gary miller. a very popular one is 'Similarities between christianity and islam' by zakir naik.

Gary miller's talks might help too:

if you DO infact manage to read the Quran plus the Ahadeeth, that would be quite an achievement.
