Sura 53:27,28

Assalamualaikum,

Sura 53 (Al-Najm) says

27. Those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names.
28. But they have no knowledge therein. They follow nothing but conjecture; and conjecture avails nothing against Truth.

Does that mean that the names 'malaaika', 'gabriela' etc are unislamic?
Does anyone know about the context when it was revealed?

As salamu alaikom, brother. No, these names are not non islamic. The word ' malaaika' is not a name.It's an Arabic word meaning angels and it's the plural form of " malak" which means an angel. As for "Jibreel" - this is the true name of this respected angel as mentioned in Surah Al Baqqara (98)or Gabriel and there's nothing to indicate that his true name was " gabriela"!!!

The Ayah speaks about the disbelievers who- unkowingly - referred to angels as females and even called them:astag: ' daughters of Allah' (subhanahu wa taala ).Then Allah swt refutes this in the next ayah where He says that following conjecture has nothing to do with the truth.

Thank you Sis. I have heard non muslim girls with the name malaika and gabriela!!!!!!
Was curious about the Islamic viewpoint on such names when I read this aayah yesterday.
