~~~Alhamdulillah~~~
:salam2:
I hope this post finds everyone in the best of health and iman in sha' Allah.
And [recall] when you said, "O Moses, we can never endure one [kind of] food. So call upon your Lord to bring forth for us from the earth its green herbs and its cucumbers and its garlic and its lentils and its onions." [Moses] said, "Would you exchange what is better for what is less? Go into [any] settlement and indeed, you will have what you have asked." And they were covered with humiliation and poverty and returned with anger from Allah [upon them]. That was because they [repeatedly] disbelieved in the signs of Allah and killed the prophets without right. That was because they disobeyed and were [habitually] transgressing.[2:61]
In the above quoted verse I have boldened a part ,which says go into any settlement,which is termed as misr in arabic verse which also means Egypt.
In the verse Musa[Moses](peace be upon him) is telling the children of Israel,who asked him for more after Allah bestowed on them so many favours,for different kind of things.In other words they preferred something other than what Allah bestowed on them.
They were repramanded by Musa(peace be upon him),when he said you ask for something lesser in exchange for something which is better(which is from Allah),then go down into another misr(settlement/Egypt).
The point here to note is they just escaped from a "misr",where they were enslaved;still they wanted to go down into another misr.
Which means that they were not yet free from the Egypt of their minds.Or so as to say,they were still enslaved by their minds.
The topic I would like to share with all of you is related with this verse.
Many of us live in places having a non muslim majority and culture.Sometimes the glitter and glamour of their ways might have same effect on our minds and enslave them into an Egypt of it's own,just like Children of Israel were.
Or maybe we are stuck with a custom or culture alien to Islam but not to the non muslim society we live in.Then we make a choice.Preferring either Islam or the customs of our place over another.Then when it results in a similar humiliation for us as it did for the children of Israel.We lament.
Before making a choice we should check are we really free in our minds or are we still a slave to some customs or some ways which are not in Islam and be wary of them else we might end up in an Egypt which is at the moment inside our minds but once we act upon our desires it becomes a physical one and we try to break free from it but we cannot.
For example,we might see some non muslim dress a certain way and celebrate in a certain way or mark certain occasions(like birthdays etc).We might be attracted to it,then we must remind ourselves are we preferring something lesser over that which is better(from Allah) and check ourselves.
This practice will in sha' Allah free our hearts and minds from this enslavement,this Egypt of minds.
A reminder to myself before anyone else.
If I said anything wrong it is from my own self and shaytaan and if there was any good in what I said,it is from Allah.All good is from Allah.
I hope this post finds everyone in the best of health and iman in sha' Allah.
