Islam is the real and purposeful willing submission to the Will of Allah.This is precisely the meaning of Islam.That is ,to submit yourself willingly ,of course ,for the purpose of believing in Allah subhana wa taa'la .The code of Islam is the worship of one God ,that is At-Tawhid (monotheism).In other words,worship god Alone and do not associate anything ,whether big or small with Him.
Also,do not offer any form of worship ,which usually comes under the term of Ibadat.Do not offer anything of that to other than Allah subhana wa taa'la.So our soul ,sacrifice ,intention ,as well as,whatever we do -we do that for the purpose of God .That is the actual meaning of Tawhid.
All the messengers of Allah were sent with the same message to their people.Every single messenger conveyed His message to the best of his ability .He told them clearly that he was only a messanger to convey the instructions of Allah to his people .the gist of the message is Tawhid ,which in its comprehensive form,includes not only worship of Allah subhanu wa taa'la and seeking His pleasure,but also leading one's life ,and that of the community ,in accordance with the teachings of Allah.this is exactly what Noah,Shoaib ,Moses ,Jesus ,Muhammad(peace be upon them all)and the rest of the messengers conveyed in their message.

The words they used might have differed ,but the gist of the message has always been the same .Probably the change in the message here and there might have differed according to the needs of the society and the evolution of history.Muhammad(PBUH) spent nearly ten years of his 23-year mission,explaining and emphasizing this point.the Point to worship God Alone and not to associate partners with Him; and reject all intercessors and things used in worship of gods or dieties.Till it was well understood by the people ,he didn't move to any other business...
The opposite to Tawhid monotheism is shirk,which is ,seeking other forces with God.May be ,it is appropriate to make clear what is meant by Tawhid and what is meant by Shirk.Of course Tawhid is to believe in Allah and to believe in all His attributes and seek His help in things that nobody can perform except Him .While Shirk ,on the other hand is the concept of associating anything with God in seeking help,i.e. association with God ,which could have many forms and various means .God has given a kind of resolution that anything we seek from human being ,which only He can do ,is a kind of shirk.That is seeking help from individuals or power that they cannot give.But if you seek help from friends and human beings,which they can perform,this is of course ,is not a shirk.the concept of shirk arises only when you are seeking things that are prerogative of God.this is definitely an important idea,because sometimes we tend to confuse both.As the Prophet (PBUH)told his companions ,we should seek everything from God.
