I have heard it said many times that humans do not come with manuals on how to operate them (especially babies). I think this is wrong, the Quran seems to be just that, the operational manual for our life.

well said but id like to add the following.
actually quraan is like a WHAT document
sunnah of the messenger (saw) and his companions is the HOW document.
collectively they form the manual.
Quraan was revealed to be followed in a certain way. if everyone starts following their own interpretation then there will be problems. this is what has happened to muslims and we see that there are so many sects, fighting and killing each other because they dont follow the actual manual and 'create' their own.
