The REAL Hijab and our Deen-ul-Wasaty(The Balanced Deen)

Dear brothers and sisters,

We know that our deen has been defined by Allah(subhana wa taala) and His Prophet(sallAllah Alaihy wa sallim) as The Deen of Balance, a religion that is not extreme or extremist, and so all of us sometimes need to be reminded of the limits imposed by Allah(subhana wa TaAla); among the things that we should be reminded is the limit in which the veil for a sister is balanced in our deen, so what is the answer? No hijab? yes Hijab or full burqa? i'll not answer but i'll let our beloved Prophet(sallaAllah Alaihy wa sallim) answer that:

"Ayesha (r) reported that Asma’ the daughter of Abu Bakr (r) came to the Messenger of Allah (s) while wearing thin clothing. He approached her and said: 'O Asma’! When a girl reaches the menstrual age, it is not proper that anything should remain exposed except this and this. He pointed to the face and hands." [Abu Dawud]

here our beloved(sallAllah Alaihy wa sallim) tells us and orders us all ,by addressing in that specific moment to Asma(radhiAllah Anha), that (our BALANCED deen) women should cover themselves, be modest..BUT we're also informed about the fact the two body parts should be visible: hands and face( not hairs).

Well that is all now i want you (inch'Allah) to reflect next time someone asks you about the hijab and ''extreme burqa'' is this the BALANCED ISLAM? --> http://www.3quarksdaily.com/.a/6a00d8341c562c53ef013485dcb4a1970c-popup

And may Allah(subhana wa taAla) forgive me if i made any mistake wa ''rabbi zidni Ilman'' (My Lord increase my knowledge) and do so also with all the believers male and female..our Lord lvoes us, guide us and perfect us in this DEEN-UL WASAT! :)

Hmm brother, there are two views amongst the scholars, and I am not here to discuss which view is the strongest ( because I am simpy not qualified to do so ) But no doubt Niqaab is the best form of hijab. Why? Because the Prophets (salallaahu aleyhi wa'salam) wives used to cover up completely. Plus the sahabiyaat radiyAllahu 'an hunna. So we have to emulate them. I don't see anything extreme about the niqaab. It's like an act of worship. You wear it for the sake of Allah.

:salam2:

dear and rispected sister,
surely the fact that the intention of wearing the niqab not because of culture and just to please Allah is more than accepted inch'Allah BUT in the light of the hadith quoted above where Rasulullah orders to leave these two spaces(face and hands) visible it inevitably leads to think otherwise, but surely the wives of the Prophet covered their faces when a man would approach etc. what does it mean? number one: it is not mandatory number two: the quran says generally that the women should civer their Awrah and we have to analyze the hadith, now in many situations we know of hadiths in which the women covered theyr faces but only when man approached! what this means is that nroamlly they woudl wear hijab and when a man would approac them..fearing that the man is not to be trusted or just a sign of a major shyness they would cover themselves up, infact...-> there is NO hadith in which the Prophet(sallAllah alayhi wa sallim) orders the countrary (to cover up ALL) BUT here he ORDERS and says: leave them uncovered! so surely a women that is approached or a woman who is more shy should cover her whole face but temporarily, and moreover the niqab rule states that even the hands should be covered..another elements that just proves the facts! Even the wives of the Prophet(radhiAllah Anhum) would not wear the ''niqab'' bBUT..as the hadith says they would take a pieace of cloth and fatly cover themselves! SO when theyr perfect shyness would prevail they would take ANY piece of cloth and temporarily cover themselves! :)

there's still so much more to take and i surely don't want to go into the debate among the scholars BUT i remember you and myslef that in Islam Niqab is not mandatory at all, it is viewed generally as a sunnah and by what i wrote above i think that what i wanted to point out in this psot is very well clear!

And i want to end with this hadith reminder THAT surely will draw your attention and read it very closely!

Ibn Abbas (ra) is one of the most learned men of the Sahaba (Companions). Prophet Muhammad ((may Peace Be Upon Him)) even prayed for him saying "O Allah, make him acquire a deep understanding of the religion of Islam and instruct him in the meaning and interpretation of things." He with reference to Surah An-Nur “except only that which is apparent” as Ibn Kathir narrated with a Sahih (authentic) chain of narrators, said it’s "The hand, the ring, and the face." Abdullah Ibn Omar Ibn Al-Khattab (ra) said “the face and the two hands”. Anas Ibn Malik (ra) said “the hand and the ring”. Ibn Hazm said: “all of this (statements) are in the highest of accuracy. And so are statements by Ali (ra), Aisha (ra), and other Tabi’een”.

wajazaka allah kahyran for your response and the possibilty of confrontation that this brought up :)

Wa aleykum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh dear brother.

I agree with you that many scholars are of the view that niqaab is a sunnah. But you can't say that "there is NO hadith in which the Prophet(sallAllah alayhi wa sallim) orders the countrary (to cover up ALL) " because it is a matter of interpretation. The Prohept's (salallahu 'aleyhi wa salam) wives used to cover up completely except when they were in ihraam, because it's not allowed to cover your face in that state.
Here is a hadith about it:
It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah said: The riders used to pass by us when we were with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in ihraam. When they came near us we would lower our jilbaabs from our heads over our faces, and when they had passed by we would uncover our faces. Narrated by Abu Dawood, 1562.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said: This is one of the things which indicate that the niqaab and gloves were known among women who were not in ihraam, which implies that they covered their faces and hands.

You can read more about it here: http://www.islam-qa.com/en/ref/11774

then i prefer to leave the matter as it is, for we're just taking up the same debate the scholars are in eheh ^_^ but for sure we both agree that's only a sunnah different from the beard sunnah because not wearing a niqab doesn't mean that one is doing haram but the haram is present when the veil is completely absent and Allah knows best <3

so with even more love, respect and peace i give you my salams and thanks again for giving me the opportuity to share ideas and make some things clearer in a way that Islam sees as the ebst of ways :) wa salam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu!! <3

Assalamu alaikim

I think the problem we muslems have is how to deal with our differences we need to feel more love , brotherhood , humbleness when we argue or deal with our differences . I used to wear higab without niqab then I started niqab I felt more purity in my heart I understood the meaning of :

when ye ask (his ladies) for anything ye want, ask them from before a screen: that makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs.

I think that in any country where niqab is popular the duty of every muslem is to encourage the complete higab following the example of the mothers of believers , I mean: it is wiser to complete matters of Islam instead of breaking it. And Astagfur Allah if I made any mistake.
