The Scholars are not infallible so we dont take from them
Answered by Shaykh Fawzan
Presented to you by Markaz Tawheed was-Sunnah in Durham, NC

Question: What is your advice for the one who insults the scholars who are upon the minhaj of the salaf and they justify not taking from them by saying: They are not infallible.?

Shaykh Fawzan: Yes the scholars are not infallible but we take knowledge from them because they say, Allah said, His Messenger said. They do not bring anything from themselves.

They bring (the knowledge) from the one who is infallible صلى الله عليه و سلم. They teach us the Quran and they teach us the Sunnah, and both of these are free from error. The Quran and the Sunnah are free from error.

As for jurisprudence and the statements of the scholars, then this is weighed against the proof. That which agrees with the proof is taken and that which contradicts the proof is abandoned.

Jazaakumullaahu khayran for the share brothers. Our scholars should be held in the highest regard, but thinking them to be free of error is falsely attributing perfection to them. May Allaah `azza wa jalla reward them all with al-Firdaws for all the work they've done for our deen.

Jazakallah Khayrun for the article and comments on the thread. While it is good to see there is respect and honour for the Scholars among many Muslims, it is also distressing to see that many in the Ummah see them negatively as well. This is not restricted to the perception of 'government scholar' but also to scholars in general .

This is sometimes to differences of opinion [with the individual judgements passed by some of the Ulema] and the fact that many Muslims have not been taught to love and admire them and are not aware of their spiritual importance and significance in Islam. In many ways it is also because so many of the common Muslims worldwide know so little about them and hence judge them unjustly because of ignorance alone.
