the shahadah is a reminder

“ la ilahaa illah lah wa muhammadur rasullah “ there is no God but God and Muhammad is his messenger; serves as a daily reminder of the commitment that we must have to Allah swt and his messenger Muhammad ( pbuh ) but it is also a basic breakdown of what we as muslims believe. the most important belief is tawhid ( the oneness of Allah swt ) when i say the shahadah i am always reminded that i should never associate partners with Allah swt. we as muslims don’t associate partners with him, because there is none like Him. i think this is what separates us from the other religions in the world. they all make partners with Allah or they put him on the same level as us. Allah is far greater and above us to be on the same level as us. I'm still trying to understand the concept of the sabbath, be it the jewish or christian sabbaths, they believe they should rest or refrain from particular activities because they believe that God rested on that day when creation was complete. we as muslims don’t believe that God “ rests “ we are of the sentiment that God doesn’t get tired, if we believed that God gets tired we really wouldn’t be believing in God. yes, we muslims have Ju’maa but we do not treat it as a sabbath, we say our prayers, listen to the sermon, and go back on our way. the shahadah safeguards us from blasphemies.

the second part of the shahadah, the part with Muhammad ( pbuh ) in it, also serves as a reminder of Allah swt’s mercy, by his giving us our beloved prophet Muhammad ( pbuh ). but it makes clear to the world, that Muhammad is our example and our guide. yes, we believe in other prophets and they were indeed important, but Muhammad ( pbuh ) has a special rank; he is the khatum ( seal ) of the prophets. after him, there will be no more. we revere him because he was the last to receive revelation from God, a revelation that will save people from jahannam ( hellfire ) and make way for entrance into jannah ( paradise ). i also get reminded of his sunnah ( way ) of how he did things and the knowledgeable lessons that he gave his wives and companions. it is from the Qur'an and sunnah that i base my faith upon, which reveals the greatest and truest statement ever made “ la ilaha illah la wa Muhammadur rasullah”
