Trailing Clothes

Allah’s Messenger (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever drags his clothes (on the ground) out of pride and arrogance, will not have Allah look at him on the Day of Resurrection.” [Sahih Bukhari]

It is forbidden to have clothes so long that they drag on the ground behind one. Such long trousers that they are stepped on under one’s heels come under this category of forbidden dress.

A woman’s ankles are supposed to be covered while a man’s ankles are supposed to be exposed. If a woman’s dress touches the ground because it is long to cover her ankles, then there is nothing wrong with that. It is the unnecessary trailing behind that is done for fashion’s sake or to exhibit arrogance that is not allowed. Men have no reason to have their clothes trail on the ground.

Often overlooked, but so easy to spot. It only takes a minute to go through the pants drawer.
