W-Salam,
Sister! You have earned my respect my mentioning Rumi.
But where did Maulana Jalaul-uddin Rumi write Romantic poetry?
Have you been to Konya, Turkey?
:salam2:
heh um i cant tell if ure being sarcastic or not anymore actually...noway havnt been to turkey ever. ...all i know is that the dude was persian and he wrote waaay better than shakespeare...hey im NOT a SUFI....
yeah i reckon these so called 'orientalists' have seriously messed up proper eastern culture. bunch of losers.W-Salam,
He wrote about the Love of Allah (SWT) & it is superb poetry. I am not a Sufi either but some of his stuff is out of this world. Orientilists have turned a lot of his poetry into Romance; which it is not!
yuck stuff.Another one of these poets is Amir Khusroo (RA) and bollywood have taken his songs which he wrote about Allah (SWT) & turned them into love-songs:astag: like
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaiyya_Chaiyya
If you listen to the words of this song in an Islamic context; it is absolutely riveting; look at the words ,
"...You are my Kalima, You are my rhyme"
"...Cherish you like a Mushaf & Endear you like a verse"
"...In the cool shade, lets walk..."
"You are my destination, you are my Jannah.."
yeah rumi is one of my fave poets and i wish i had the time to study him proper, stuff like sheakespear is just forced down ure throat at school but when compared to Rumi its just flops.
none.Which guy sings that for a girl!
it would be great if pakistan kicked bollywood right off the scene, its sad that u heard it there in the bollywood context and not the origonal like it should be.P.S: I don't listen to songs; but heard this in Pakistan so I had to look it up and investigate the history!

Asalamualaikum wr wb. my dearest muslim family, Subhanallah Walhamdulillah Waalaailahailallah Waallahuakbar Laaailahailallah muhammadur rasulullah saw beautiful poem, a really romantic poet. masahallah. i have always admired poets who write with their head and heart. Allahuakbar. masahallah. May Allah swt bless us all always in all ways.True Love
I want you too much to take you
And cherish you too much to cheapen
So sister accept my distance
And watch my love slowly deepen
I am but one man among many
Who longingly thinks to savor
Your warmth, your eyes, your smile,
And wonder at its flavor
My place among them is common
Of merits, I cannot boast
But sister my devotion
To your honor is foremost
It’s for Islam, not spite it
That I will not meet your eye
And it’s not romantic cowardice
That keeps my smiles shy
It’s not that you’re inferior
It’s just that I’m so base
I haven’t the control
To gaze into your face
Without my heart missing beats
Without forgetting to be ‘brother’
Without wishing your love
Was for me, and no other
So until Allah blesses me
And you become my other half
I will always close my ears
To the melody of your laugh
I will always close my eyes
To the beauty of your face.
I will kindly ask my heart
To beat at normal pace.
I will walk a step before you
And cast no looks from behind
I will move my lips in zhikr
To keep you off my mind.
For I want you too much to take you
And cherish you too much to cheapen
Sister, accept my distance.
Sister, watch my love deepen.
Zeba Khan
Hope no one finds this offensive
