U.S. cop mistakenly shoots daughter, crashes car while racing to hospital

Apparently, it was late and the policeman saw a dark figure at his garage who he suspected of being a stranger. He thought his family was asleep upstairs. Instead the dark figure was his daughter who was attempting to sneak out.

I posted it here because I think it represents a kind of carelessness of those entrusted with security. If this is what policeman can be like in their own homes and by looking only at their own perceived responsibilities, what about the rights of those in the public and the lack of security we can expect from officers like the one in the article. I am not saying this is an American situation alone, far from it, it can happen and probably does happen anywhere.

The episode above, although perhaps restricted to this officer alone, shows how the sentiments and feelings of the security personnel are and can sometimes be more important than concern and the well being of others when their own turf is trampled on.

In this case, the officer first did not ask the dark figure to identify him/herself, did not give them the chance to surrender and after shooting his daughter accidentally, did not care about the danger to other drivers and passers by on the way to hospital.
