Fresh Update on Delhi Blasts

Before anyone starts predicting that this was a fake encounter etc let me tell you that my cousin witnessed the shooting which went on for about 4 hours between the cops and the terrorists in Jamia Nagar (Delhi). Now, all the allegations that this was an internal job, lie to rest.

NEW DELHI: Two terrorists were killed and two Delhi police personnel were injured in a fierce encounter in Jamia Nagar of south Delhi. ( Watch )

Atiq, wanted in connection with the serial blasts in Ahmedabad and Delhi, and one of his associates were killed when a police team stormed the house where they were holed up, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnail Singh told reporters at the end of the encounter that lasted more than an hour. According to police tip-off, there were five terrorists holed up in an apartment near Khalilullah mosque. While two terrorists have been killed, two have managed to escape and one terrorist has been apprehended.

Mohan Chand Sharma, an inspector who led the team, and a head constable were injured in the heavy exchange of fire. Sharma suffered a bullet injury in the abdomen, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H J S Dhaliwal said. ( Watch )

Police sources say the terrorists are member of the terror group Indian Mujahideen. Jamia Nagar is close to New Friends Colony in south Delhi.

Meanwhile, Delhi police commissioner Y S Dadwal in a press conference said they had received no tip-off from Ahmedabad blast accused Bashir about the terrorists' hideout.

Dadwal also confirmed that the terrorists were linked to Delhi serial blasts' suspect Tauqir.

On Thursday, Ahmedabad blasts prime suspect Abu Bashir was brought to Delhi in connection with Saturday's (Sept 13) serial blasts. He allegedly told his interrogators that he knew serial blasts were being planned in Delhi but claimed he was not aware of their timing. The blasts killed 25 people and left over 100 injured.

According to police sources, Bashir on Thursday also told his interrogators that more back-to-back attacks on Delhi had been planned.

Police said they had intelligence inputs on the presence of terrorists in the house, who were linked to the Delhi blasts and during a checking, the terrorists fired on the personnel. Dhaliwal rubbished reports that the encounter took place in a mosque.
