upholding the ties of kinship given difficult circumstances

Abu Hannah

Upholding the ties of kinship is an important part of Islam. However, if this involves being in haram environments during family gatherings such as alcohol being consumed, total free mixing, music and dancing, is it ok to stay away. In terms of being there to warn them, this is not something feasible as they would never take me seriously. In such a case, is it ok to stay away from such family gatherings. I would not be wanting to cut the ties with them, I just don't want to be in such environment. Of course due to not attending such events, people may want to cut ties with me, but as far as I am concerned, apart from such gatherings, I have no problems in interacting with them if I meet or see them somewhere. Please give me advice from a shariah perspective.
