Asalaamu Alaykum,
My dear brother, our iman increases and decreases first of all.
To continue, may Allah have mercy on you, we as Muslims are people who 'submit' to Allah. We believe that Allah has Infinite Knowledge and Wisdom and know what is even in our hearts, therefore, if we truly believe Allah to be the Most Wise, then everything that happens, even if it be 'bad' has a wisdom which Allah knows. We know, may Allah have mercy on you, that just becasue we say we believe in Allah, Allah will not exclude us from trials and tests, as then everyone could say they believe. Rather these tests and tribulations that occur seperate the mu'min from the one who is a hypocrite i.e. it is a means of examining the true inclinatio of the heart. It is also a way of purifying the individual if patience it kept, just like gold is thrown into the hot furnace to removes it impurities and comes out more pure! My brother, may Allah increase you in righteousness, if we believe that Allah ahs let us down, we have not understood who Allah is; He is perfect, HE is the one to be Relied upon, so by saying that Allah has let us down, we are denying the attributes of Allah, and we seek refuge in Allah from that. Surely you cannot count the blessings that Allah has given us, and continues to give us even though we are disobedient to Him. In reality, it is us that are not grateful to Allah! When we sinned, did not Allah continue to provide for us? When we engaged in intentionally going against the commandments of Allah, were your legs removed from you, your eyes, nose, mouth and ears effaced? Allah is the Most Merciful! We are Muslims, we accept everything that happens to us which comes from Allah, if not we surely would be 'protestors' instead of 'submitters'. It is not correct to question Allah azza wa Jal, rather we should question ourselves, was it our own actions that inflicted this humiliation upon us? Truth be told, we are all sinners, so what right to Sinners have to question the One who is free from all imperfection, Allah? Yet when we are touched by a small calamity, we say that we did we do to deserve this! My beloved brother, may Allah protect you, know that it is not the trials that will destroy you, it is your reaction to them. Either it increases us in our eman, such that we increase our worship during it and remian steadfast and patient, so much so that after each successive trial the rust on our hearts is removed and become full of light, or we turn away from the deen, blaming everything on Allah, complaining to people about Allah, and end up with an iota of faith being removed from our hearts. I advice myself before you and anyone else, to continually seek the forgiveness of Allah, repent to Him, turn to Him, for there is none that can remove diffculty except Him! "No calamity occurs without the permission of Allah; and whoever trusts in Allah, He guides his heart; and Allah knows all things"(64:11). Only humans let each other down, whilst Allah the Most High, is far removed from such an lowly trait! I ask Allah to forgive me if i have said anything without knowledge, and I ask you my brother to forgive me if i have mentioned anything that might have hurt you, and please remember me in your duas.
Take care akhi, and if you need anything just ask, i live in the UK too!
Wassalaam
