Weeping over sins at midnight:dua:

By Mohammad Rafique Etesame

Almighty Allah Says in the holy Qur’an, ”Who forsake their beds to cry unto their Lord in fear and hope, and spend of what We have bestowed on them.” (As- Sajdah: 16)

When people are sleeping and busy with worldly pleasures Allah (SWT) gives the believers an opportunity, or an answer hour if they can fight sleep and invoke Allah (SWT) for whatever they need. The Prophet (SAW) said: 'There is at night an hour, no Muslim happens to be asking Allah any matter of this world or the Hereafter, except that he will be given it, and this (occurs) every night.
[Sahih Muslim ]

These verses and hadith throw light on the benefits of rising up late at night for offering some rak’at of Salah i.e. Tahajjud prayer. Then after this, when the faithful believer asks something at that time from Allah All-Mighty, he is awarded whatever he asks lawfully. And if he becomes regretful and ashamed of his sins and weeps and wants to make repentance to Allah (SWT), then Allah (SWT) likes this position of His slave and forgive him. Narrated Abu Omamah (RA): that Allah’s Messenger (SAW) was asked, O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is heard (by Allah (SWT), he said the end of the night and at the end of the obligatory Salat (prayer) [at-Tirmidhi]

So, if we want to ask something and to have our sins forgiven, then it is necessary to rise up at midnight to offer Tahajjud prayer and also somewhat weeping over the sins along with it.
