Wa alaikumussalaam warahmatullaah,

Revert means to go back to its original state and Convert means to change ones state to something he/she is new to. For people who later embraced Islam, it's more appropriate to call them Reverts 'cause they are considered Muslims when they were born as they were fully submitting to Allaah subhanahu wa ta'ala's will.

salam alikoum,
my answer was taken from a passage written by sheikh yousuf estes, he said that revert is most suitable when descrbing someone who is returning to its original state (elfitra)
and convert is to describe the transition from something to something else.
when we deal with new muslims, we call them reverts, because allah created them on fitra, and they are back to it.
and allah knows best.
wa salam alikoum

okay, so it's better to say revert than convert.
Again, jazakumullah khair for the information. very useful!
