I started this thread because there are many people in the world who are confused what should our position be with regards to the Khawaarij and Takfiris such as the Likes of Bin Laden, Al-Queda, Abdullah Azzaam and others in the Light of the Qur'an and the Sunnah.

Introduction

Zahdam ibn Mudrab narrated: I heard 'Imraan ibn Husayn saying: The Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said:

((The best people are those living in my generation, then those coming after them, and then those coming after (the second generation).)), [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree, 3/219]

'Abdullaah ibn Mas'ood (radhi-yallaahu 'anhu) narrated: The Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) said:

((The people of my generation are the best, then those who follow them, and then those who follow the latter)), [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree, 3/820]

'Aa.ishah (radhi-yallaahu 'anhaa) narrated that: A person asked Allaah's Apostle (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) as to who amongst the people were the best. He said:

((Of the generation to which I belong, then of the second generation (generation adjacent to my generation), then of the third generation (generation adjacent to the second generation).)), [Saheeh Muslim 6159]

About the Khawaarij

Khawaarij

Name of group - Khawaarij
Adherent to group - Khaarijee, plural - Khaarijiyyoon

The Khawaarij are a sect which came out to kill 'Alee ibn Abee Taalib (radhi-yallaahu 'anhu) concerning the issue of ruling/leadership.

Their chosen path was one of distancing themselves from 'Uthmaan ibn 'Affaan and 'Alee ibn Abee Taalib (radhi-yallaahu 'anhumaa), and condoning walking out against the Imaam (leader) and seeking to overthrow him if he opposes the Sunnah. Likewise, they would make takfeer (render someone a kaafir) of anyone who commits a major sin and claim that he will forever abide in the Fire of Hell.

ash-Shahrastaanee defines them as:

((Anyone who walks out against (seeking to overthrow) the true appointed Imaam (leader) upon whose leadership the Jamaa'ah is in agreement is called a Khaarijee. This is the case, despite whether the walking out (against the Imaam) occurred in the days of the Rightly-Guided Khulafaa. or other than them from the Taabi'een)).

And some of the pious predecessors used to call all those who practiced Islaam based upon their desires as Khawaarij.

The Khawaarij were the first sect to appear in the history of Islaam, splitting up into more than 20 different sub-sects. However, it is said that the major sub-sects of the Khawaarij are seven:
1) al-Mahkamah al-Oolaa;
2) al-Azaariqah;
3) an-Najdaat;
4) ath-Thu'aalabah;
5) al-'Ajaaridah;
6) al-Abaadhiyyah;
7) as-Safriyyah.

Some of the other sub-sects include:
1) al-Ibaathiyyah;
2) ash-Shamraakhiyyah;
3) as-Salaydiyyah;
4) as-Sirriyyah;
5) al-'Azriyyah;
6) al-'Ajradiyyah;
7) ash-Shakkiyyah;
8) al-Fadhaliyyah;
9) al-Bayhasiyyah;
10) al-'Atwiyyah;
11) al-Fadeekiyyah;
12) al-Ja'diyyah;
13) ash-Shaybiyyah;
14) al-Hurooriyyah;
15) al-Khamariyyah;
16) ash-Sharaah.

Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin al-Ubaykaan On The Khawaarij and the Renewed Ideology

All praise is due to Allaah and prayers and peace be upon Allaah's Messenger. To proceed:

Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin al-'Ubaykaan is one from the people of knowledge who in the earlier days (early to mid 1990s) used to be with the Qutubiyyoon, Surooriyyoon in their da'wah, or to put it another way, with the Shabaab us-Sahwah (the Youth of the Awakening). His mosque used to be filled with these youth and in which much incitement and commotion and open revilements used to take place. It is also well known and famous that they used to call him "Sultaan ul-'Ulamaa", (the Chief, Head of the Scholars).

However Allaah guided the Shaykh to see the true reality of what the Qutubiyyoon were upon, and the sources and roots of their ideology and the figureheads around whom they were flocking, the Shaykh turned away from this and then made the following clarifications:

1) Making clear the obligation to adhere to the Salafi Manhaj and abandonment of separation in the deen. And also rebuking the various innovated jamaa'aat that had appeared in contemporary times, in the field of da'wah

2) Making clear the obligation of returning back to the Salafi Manhaj in dealing with the Rulers, such as making supplication for them, obeying them in what is good and advising them and so on.

3) Rebuking and finding fault with the figureheads of revolution, whom the youth were flocking around

4) Issuing advice concerning the so called Committee of Defence of Human Rights, that was set up by the al-Muhaajiroun Innovator, Muhammad al-Mis'ari (who made hijrah from the lands of the Muslims to the lands of the Kuffar)

5) Exposing the Takfiri manhaj which has washed the brains of the youth in the lands of Afghanistan and warning from it.

So when the Shaykh made this apparent and clear, and the Qutubiyyoon saw this from him, they then began to label him "Markoob us-Salaateen" (the riding animal of the rulers)! And the Shaykh is just one of a great number of people who have suffered at the hands of these Takfiris and Qutubis. Others include the likes of Shaykh Abdullaah al-Ubaylaan, Shaykh Salih as-Suhaymee, Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin al-Abbaad who were all hounded and physically attacked and ruffled by the Qutubiyyah and Takfiriyyah, and we have already placed audio recordings of these incidents on this website.

As for the statement itself, then the following are some statements from it:

a) "This land (i.e. Saudi) is not the place for these [deviant] methodologies ever (meaning the Takfiri methodologies), and this corrupt and filthy manhaj began outside of this country, and how did it enter into this land? The origins of Takfir were spread by way of people who came from outside of this country, and then they spread it amongst the sentimental youth, and these (youth) were the ones who had not been blessed with the Da'wah Salafiyyah. Thus, those (people) cultivated partisanship, hatred, and (secret) arrangement amongst the youth, in the organisation of astray groups. And the youth from this land left this land to go to Afghanistan, and then they found there those who would teach them and cultivate them upon the manhaj of Takfir."

b) "However the manhaj of the Khawaarij is the manhaj of clashing and stirring the tribulations an dissension and open advice to the rulers and publicising their affairs and what is like that.

c) "And this is what happened to those from whom the act of terrorism occurred (i.e. the bombing in Ulayyaa, from the followers of Abu Muhammad al-Maqdisi, who made takfir of Ibn Baz), for they thought that they were upon the truth and what is correct. So they came with an incorrect ijtihaad for which they are not excused, because they did not turn to the scholars"

d) "And unfortunately, they (the Takfiris) caused them youth (those who did the bombing) that the likes of the respected Shaykh Abdul Azeez Ibn Baaz, when they saw that these youth might return back to what Shaikh Abdul Azeez Ibn Baaz, and Shaykh Ibn Ibraaheem and Shaykh Ibn Abdul-Wahhaab and Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, then they made them to understand that the likes of Shaykh Abdul Azeez Ibn Baaz is a Kaafir, and that he is not to be taken from..."

And many other affairs. And it has also been printed with the name "The Khawaarij and the Renewed Methodology". It is important to remember that this comes from a Shaykh who was with them and revered by them, until he left them and warned from, and thus he became reviled and rebuked by them. And previously his lessons in his mosque were filled,with very large numbers by these youth, and afterwards, only a handful could be found. And this is the way of the Qutubiyyoon, Takfiriyyoon, in that when they see those who would expose their evil to the youth, they beging their propaganda campaign, to discredit those who know them, and what they are upon and who can show their departure from the manhaj of the Salaf from numerous angles.

And this is amongst the many expositions and humiliations for the Qutubiyyah, the Khawaarij of the Era, for someone who was with them, or deceived by them and upon their da'wah supportive of it, then left them and abandoned them and exposed the foreign deviant methodologies they had been brainwashed by.

We ask Allaah to bring out of more these types of affairs so that this fitnah that was entered into Ahl us-Sunnah by the figureheads of Ikhwaan can be seen for what it is, and be ended.

Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan on the Khawaarij, the Bombings (in Riyaadh) and the Sanctioning of the Hypocrites

Alhamdulillaah was Salaatu was Salaamu `alaa Rasoolillaah, wa ba`ad: This is an excellent statement from Shaykh Saalih al-Fowzaan in which he exposes the ideology of the Khawaarij and its effects upon the society and the land, and also the Hypocrites who lurk in the midst and who only reveal their true colors following certain events and incidents, and who desire evil for Islaam and its adherents. And both of these groups, the Khawaarij and the Munaafiqeen, along with a third group which are those who flee the lands of the Muslims and seek the protection of the Mushriks in their lands, such as the likes of al-Mas’aree an Sa’d al-Faqeeh, and who then plot against the Muslim lands, then they are all harmful to the Ummah, and they need to be exposed and warned against. Collectively, they constitute the animal that the Kuffaar ride upon in order to harm Islaam and the Muslims…Here are the words of the Shaykh, published a few days ago.

AT-TAFJEERAAT WA TAHLEELAAT AL-MUNAAFIQEEN
All praise is due to Allaah, the Lord of all the Worlds, and salaat and salaam be upon the trustworthy Prophet, our Prophet Muhammad, upon his family, his companions and [all] those following them in goodness, until the Day of Judgement. To proceed:

Verily, when the shocking event occurred, the event of the bombings in the city of Riyaadh undertaken by the violent and barbarious (savage) hands, in the capital of the land of tawheed, they turned upon the religion, and upon humanity (by way of this act of theirs), and the Kuffaar have taken them as riding animal in order to attack Islaam and the Muslims. And this action of their was a result of their ignorance, their being deceived and their evil nurturing, and their breaking off from the society and their turning away from learning the beneficial knowledge, and taking it from those who (truly) possess it, and also restricting themselves to their own faulty understandings and their stagnant views.

And their affair in this matter, is the affair of the Khawaarij Renegades, those who killed the two Rightly Guided Caliphs, Uthmaan and Alee (radhi-yallaahu 'anhumaa), and also their concern with killing Mu`aawiyah and `Amr bin al-Aas (radhi-yallaahu 'anhumaa), and killing others from the leaders of the Muslims.

I say that when this repugnant action occurred in these days of ours, the Hypocrites took a deep breath and made a sigh, and they carried the responsibility of this action upon the religion, and that it (i.e. Islaam) was the reason for their transgression (i.e. that of the Khawaarij), upon the Muslims and upon humanity as a whole. And they said, may Allaah make them ugly, that this action of theirs (i.e. of those Khawaarij) was due to their embracement of the views of Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah and Shaykh ul-Islaam Muhammad bin Abdul-Wahhaab, and other than them both from amongst the Scholars of Islaam.

This is how they lie in wait with pessimism and ascription of evil to Islaam and for the Scholars of Islaam, just like Aal Fir`awn, those about whom Allaah said:

{And if evil afflicted them, they ascribed it to evil omens connected with Mûsa (Moses) and those with him} (Soorah Al-A'raf, Aayah 131).

And just like the Mushriks, they also ascribed the occurrence of evil to Muhammad (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam), just as Allaah said about them:

{...But if some evil befalls them, they say, “This is from you”} (Soorah An-Nisa, Aayah 78)
...and just as the Hypocrites said in the expedition of the confederates (al-ahzaab), when the Muslims were afflicted with whatever afflicted them of hardship and severity, just as Allaah said about them:

{And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease (of doubts) said: “Allaah and His Messenger promised us nothing but delusions!} (Soorah Al-Ahzab, Aayah 12)

...and just as they said on the day of (the battle of) al-Badr, concerning the Muslims:

{These people (Muslims) are deceived by their religion} (Soorah Al-Anfal, Aayah 49)

...and they also said, on the day of Uhud:

{If we had anything to do with the affair, none of us would have been killed here} (Soorah Aali Imran, Aayah 154).

So the saying of these Hypocrites (in our times) concerning these events is nothing but the statement of their predecessors in the events that occurred previously, and every nation has an inheritor.

Certainly, the religion of Islaam prohibits transgression in all of its types and its manifestations, Allaah, (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) said:

{And transgress not. Verily, Allaah does not like the transgressor} (Soorah Al-Ma'idah, Aayah 87)

...and He said:

{And let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: that is nearer to piety, and fear Allaah} (Soorah Al-Ma'idah, Aayah 8).

And those subverters, vandals, they took their destructive ideology from the ideology of the Khawaarij Renegades before them who unleashed it upon Islaam, and they took it from the callers of misguidance, those whom the Messenger (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) described as

((Callers at the gates of Hellfire, whoever obeys them, they will throw him into it)), so it is was said, ((Describe them to us O Messenger of Allaah)), he said:

((They are a people of our skin (i.e. lineage) and they will speak with our tongue...)).

And these Hypocrites have requested the abolition of the necessary allegiance (al-walaa) and enmity, disavowal (al-baraa), both of which are from the strongest handholds of Islaam, and they requested the abolition of the commandment to good and forbiddence of evil, both of which comprise the guarantee of the maintanenance and lasting of the Islamic society, and they also requested the abolition of jihaad in the path of Allaah, which is the peak of the matter of Islaam, and they also requested that the methodologies (of Islaam) be purified from any resemblances of loving necessitated by the Sharee'ah, and they called to allegiance (i.e. loving) of the Disbelievers and the Pagans, and to the absence of differentiating between them and the Muslims. So what means of deliverance then have they left for the Muslims?

Indeed, they did not say these repugnant sayings except because they are restricted and confined by Islaam and its people, and when the chance became available to them, they began to reveal the enmity and jealousy they had towards Islaam and the Muslims, just as Allaah said concerning them:

{But surely, you will know them by the tone of their speech! And Allaah knows all your deeds} (Soorah Muhammad, Aayah 30).

However, their affair will be just like the affair of their predecessors, that of humiliation, lowliness, and they do not harm except themselves:

{Say: “perish in your rage. Certainly, Allaah knows what is in the breasts (all the secrets)} (Soorah Aali Imran, Aayah 119).

And certainly, the severe hardships and afflictions do not increase the Muslims except in steadfastness in their religion, and following their Prophet and their Scholars, the Imaams of Guidance, and the Illuminators of the darkness, such as Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah and Shaykh ul-Islaam Muhammad bin Abdul-Wahhaab, both whom those Hypocrites have made as examples of extremism and exaggeration, and in such a way because of their blindness, they considered the sources of good and guidance to be sources of evil and beguilement, just like their predecessors were pessimistic towards the Prophets (ascribing evil outcomes to them), and to their followers.

And say [those of] sore eyes,
the sun has eyes also,
you see them when it disappears and when it rises
And pardon those eyes whose light Allaah has taken away
So they do not contract and they do not comprehend…

And indeed, it is from the blindness of insight (i.e. intellect and understanding) that person believe falsehood to be truth and truth to be falsehood, and we invite these people to repent and return to their guidance and to withhold their tongues, otherwise they will not be harming except themselves, and Islaam has a Lord that will protect it and the Scholars have a Lord that will aid them:

{They had nothing against them, except that they believed in Allaah, the All-Mighty, Worthy of all Praise! Who, to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth! And Allaah is Witness over everything} (Soorah Al-Buruj, Aayaat 8- 9).

And it is not a departure – O noble reader – that there should be found some coarseness in my speech, for verily the speech of those people is more coarse, and the author (of those words) is more unjust, and Allaah is sufficient for us, and how excellent a one is He to place trust in.

And indeed from that which expands the chest and gives satisfaction and rest to the heart is the answer given by the esteemed Ministor of the Interior (Hafitha-hullaah) to one of these people, when this person suggested that the Committee for the enjoinment of good and forbiddence of evil be abolished, so he (Hafitha-hullaah) replied that commanding of the good and forbiddence of the evil shall remain in his land as long as Islaam remains, and he (Hafitha-hullaah) gave an upright, straight answer and was correct and successful in this definitive answer. For verily this state was built upon Islaam and its foundations, and amongst them is the commanding of good and forbiddence of evil, and there is no continuance for this state except with thecontinuance of its foundations that it is built upon.

O Allaah protect for us our religion and our security, and our firm establishment in our lands, and do not empower over us due to our sins those who do not fear you and who will not show mercy to us, and save us from the evil of the tribulations, those which are apparent and those that are hidden, and protect those in authority over us, and grant them success in that in which their rectitude lies, and the rectitude of Islaam and the Muslims. O Allaah, whoever intends evil for us, and for Islaam and for the Muslims, then occupy him with his own self and throw his plot back at him, indeed you are powerful over everything, and salaat and salaam be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions.

Imaam Ibn Uthaimeen on The Khawaarij of the Era, The Kharijite Ideologists, the Preachers of Revolution and Destruction

One of the students of knowledge from Algeria asked the noble Shaikh, Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaimeen about some groups of people who make takfir of the rulers without any guidelines and conditions.

The Shaikh replied: "Those who make takfir, they are the inheritors of the Khawaarij, those who rebelled against Ali bin Abi Taalib (radiallahu anhu). The kaafir is the one whom Allaah and His Messenger have declared a kaafir, and takfir itself has conditions, amongst them, ilm (knowledge) and amongst them iraadah (will, intent). So we ought to know that this ruler opposed the truth, and he knew the truth, and he intended deliberate opposition, and that he did not have any faulty interpretation (in the matter), such as when a person prostrates to an idol, and he knows that prostrating to an idol is Shirk and he does not have any faulty understanding either.

What is important is that this affair has conditions, and it is not permissible to rush into takfir, just as it is not permissible to rush into the saying, "This is halaal (lawful) and this is haraam (unlawful)."

Questioner: "Also, they listen to the cassettes of Salmaan bin Fahd al-Awdah, and Safar al-Hawaali!! Do we advise them to not listen to them?!!"

Shaikh Ibn Uthaimeen: "May Allaah bless you. The good that is in their cassettes is also found in other than their cassettes, and their cassettes have some observations against them, some of their cassettes, not all of them. And I am not able to distinguish between them for you - I (am not able) - between this and that!!

Questioner: In that case you advise us not to listen to them?

Shaikh Ibn Uthaimeen: "No (do not listen to them). I advise you to listen to the cassettes of Shaikh ibn baaz, the cassettes of Shaikh al-albaani, the cassettes of the scholars who are known for uprightness and integrity (i'tidaal), AND WHO ARE NOT KNOWN FOR REVOLUTIONARY IDEOLOGY (THAWRAH FIKRIYYAH)"!!

Questioner: O Shaikh! Even if in this matter - for example - their is difference (khilaaf), so they make takfir of the Rulers and they say that this is Jihaad - for example - in Algeria, and they listen to the cassettes of Salmaan and Safar al-Hawaali. So is this khilaaf (difference) one that is far'ee (i.e. subsidiary, as opposed to fundamental)?! Or is it a difference in the Usool (fundamentals) O Shaikh?!!

Shaikh Ibn Uthaimeen: "No! This is a difference in aqeedah (khilaaf aqdiyy), because it is from the Usool of Ahl us-Sunnah that we do not make takfir of anyone on account of a sin!"

Questioner: They, O Shaikh, do not make takfir of one who commits major sin, except the Rulers, they come with the verse, "Whoever does not judge by what Allaah has revealed, they are the Disbelievers", and they make takfir of the Rulers only?!!

Shaikh Ibn Uthaimeen: "There is an athar (narration) from Ibn Abbaas concerning this verse, which explains that the intent is the kufr which does not expel from the religion, as occurs in the saying of the Messenger (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam), "Reviling Muslim is sin (fusooq) and fighting him is kufr (disbelief). And in the view of the some of Mufassiroon, it was actually revealed for the People of the Book, this is because the actual context of the passage is what occurs before, "Verily, We did send down the Taurât (Torah) [to Mûsa (Moses)], therein was guidance and light, by which the Prophets, who submitted themselves to Allâh's Will, judged the Jews. And the rabbis and the priests [too judged the Jews by the Taurât (Torah) after those Prophets] for to them was entrusted the protection of Allâh's Book, and they were witnesses thereto. Therefore fear not men but fear Me (O Jews) and sell not My Verses for a miserable price. And whosoever does not judge by what Allâh has revealed, such are the Kâfirûn (i.e. disbelievers - of a lesser degree as they do not act on Allâh's Laws)." (5:44)".

COMMENTS: Nothing, except Allaahu Akbar! Allaahu Akbar! Allaahu Akbar! The truth of Sunnah and Salafiyyah has come and the falsehood of Bid’ah, Hawaa and Qutubiyyah has perished! "Inheritors of the [very first] Khawaarij"!! "Revolutionary Ideologists"!! "A difference in aqeedah"!! "Listen to the cassettes of Shaikh Ibn Baaz, Shaikh al-Albaani, who are upright and not know as revolutionary ideologists"!!

It is obligatory upon every partisan Qutubi and every one who has become confused with the deviations and heresies of Salman and Safar (which are in reality those of Sayyid Qutb and Mohammad Qutb) to finally repent and to publicly disavow them, and to break off their allegiance to them and to their firqah of the newly-arisen Khawaarij and to correct their walaa and baraa!! These are the "Khaarijiyyah Asriyyah" who made takfir of the sinners and rendered them eternal inhabitants of the Hellfire!! These are the Khaarijiyyah Asriyyah who charged our Ulamaa (and this includes Imaam Ibn Baaz and Imaam Ibn Uthaimeen) with the Irjaa of Jahm Ibn Safwaan!! These are the Revolutionary Takfiris who called our scholars "the scholars of women's menses and impurities"!! These are the Revolutionary Takfiris who raised high and aggrandised the Innovators, the Utterers of Kufr and Apostasy, the Mockers of the Prophets, the Revilers of the Caliphs, and Mukaffiroon of the Companions" These are the Extremist Murji'ah of the Era to whom statements of kufr and apostasy and open sin do not harm in the presence of talk of Haakimiyyah!!

What did Imaam al-Albaani say about this firqah? "They have opposed the Salaf in much of the issues of manhaj, and it is befitting that I label them the Khawarij of the era. And this resembles their emergence at the current time – in which we read their statements – because they, in reality, their words take the direction and objective of that of the Khawarij in performing takfir of the one who commits major sins. And perhaps I should say, this is either due to ignorance on their behalf or due to devised plot!!"

What did Imaam Ibn Baaz advise the Minister of the Interior concerning them? "They should be prevented from giving lectures, lessons etc. as a protection of the society from their danger"!!

And for how long have the Shaikhs of Madinah been refuting and exposing these neo-Qutubites, born of the Awakening of their Sayyid?!

Indeed, they have been exposed, repelled, humiliated, and their treachery and deceit all but laid bare, walhamdulillaah!!
