Salam alaikum.

What's the difference between a weak Muslim and a hypocrite?

For example, say a person knows music is haram and still listens to music now and then. Is that person a hypocrite or a weak muslim? What's the difference?

Surah 63 (Al-Munafiqun); Ayat 2:
They make their oaths a shelter, and thus turn away from Allah's way; surely evil is what they do.

Though the Surah is on hypocrites, this ayat describes a weak muslim as well. Another example, a person who prays 5 times a day and promises their parents that they won't go to some party that's haram, and then secretly they go to a haram place, even though they know it will be going against Allah's way. Is this an example of a hypocrite or a weak muslim?

Surah 63 (Al-Munafiqun); Ayat 3:
That is because they believe, then disbelieve, so a seal is set upon their hearts, so they do not understand.

The description in this sentence is of a hypocrite. So what's the description of a weak muslim?

From what I know, hypocrites go to the deepest parts of hell, whereas weak Muslims will get into one of the lower heavens. Right? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

JazakAllah khyr in advance for all responses.

Salam alaikum.

Tamed Brother
AssalaamuAlaikum,

As sister Muslimah77 has explained with the references of two scholars.

In summary, it is mostly about deception. For example, there are two examples of People:

1- A person who is Muslim and believes in Allah from his heart but is very sinful and admits that theses are sins, but he does not feel guilt.

2- A nonmuslim who does not believe in Allah from his heart but pretends to be a Muslim to decieve the Muslims.

Please note that there is a great possibility of falling in category 2 if a person retains his sate of category 1.

Commintting a sin but giving justifications for that or not cosinder a sin to be a sin is also hypocrisy, and hence defines a Munafiq. In current age of misery, one can imagine how many people are there under such situation.

Three types of people

Salam alaikum.

What's the difference between a weak Muslim and a hypocrite?

Salam alaikum.

:salam2: Brother and Sisters,

In my understanding, there is no such thing as a weak Muslim. Let me elaborate. Allah (SWA) says in Quran, that there are only three types of people. viz those who Believe (Mutaqeen), those who do not believe and will never believe (Kaafireen) and those who say they belief, but don't really believe, (Munafiqeen) they won't completely committ to Islam, and do things contrary to Qur'an. Al-Qur'an is a guidance to the Mutaqeen only, and says the Munafiqeen are the worst group of the three as they make a mockery of Allah's (SWA) religion. (see Surah Bakarah verse 1-20) :angryred:

Each and every person knows in their hearts which category they fall into. Those amongst the Mutaqeen who err, must make Tawbah, because Allah (SWA) is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful and ever willing to pardon those who err, who realise their folly and repent to Allah. Allah loves those who implore Him. :salah:

But those who knowingly and willfully do wrong, Allah (SWA) will not forgive them ...(see Surah Nisaa verse 168-169) and Allah (SWA) does not love those who do wrong (Surah Al Emraan v57) They resemble a donkey with a pile of books on it back (knowing the truth yet choose to ignore it, like the donkey, oblivious of the wealth of knowledge the books on its back contain - (Surah Jumu'ah verse 5). Allah (SWA ) asks, Is there a desease in their hearts? (Surah Noor Vers 50)

The 20 million dollar question is why would anyone willfully do whatever is contrary to Qur'an? :SMILY286:

For those who do wrong, there is a grievious punishment, .... And Allah is strict in punishment - This formula is often repeated throughout Al-Qur'an... the guidance for the Mutaqeen. (see definition of Mutaqeen Surah Bakarah verses 3-5)

I hope this is sufficient to answers your question.
