salaam alaiykum,

I have no favorite surahs but I notice i listen to different surahs during different times. These days I seem to recite and listen to Surat Ibrahim(abraham) and Surat At Taubah (the repentance)

Assalamu alaikoum

Surah Al Ikhlas as it encompasses Tawheed and is easy for a non arabic speaker to learn to recite :) Also, Al Baqarah contains so many important lessons for us as does the whole Qur'an, Alhamdulillah.

wa alaiykum salaam ,

indeed sister i agree.

as for stating as asked in this thread for a particuler verse thats of intrest from the surah of liking (i dont like choosing between surahs) in surah ibrahim you will find a quote from satan in verse 22 which is indeed spine tingling.

Surah Ibrahim verse 22 "And Satan saith, when the matter hath been decided: Lo! Allah promised you a promise of truth; and I promised you, then failed you. And I had no power over you save that I called unto you and ye obeyed me. So blame not, but blame yourselves. I cannot help you, nor can ye help me, Lo! I disbelieved in that which ye before ascribed to me. Lo! for wrong-doers is a painful doom.

Indeed in the surah we can find wisdom and piety of the father of prophets , Abraham(pbuh).
It is from his line through which prophet mohammed (pbuh) came.

My favorite sura is Ad-Duha, because the first time I read it, I was having a really hard time with things, and its message cheered me up so much I cried.

"By the Glorious Morning Light
And by the Night when it is still,-
Thy Guardian-Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.
And verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present.
And soon will thy Guardian-Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well-pleased.
Did He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)?
And He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance.
And He found thee in need, and made thee independent.
Therefore, treat not the orphan with harshness,
Nor repulse the petitioner (unheard);
But the bounty of the Lord - rehearse and proclaim!"

And have any of you ever had a moment when you're really stressed, and you opened the the quran to calm yourself down, and the first thing you read concerned what was troubling you?

That happened to me one time, when I was really upset at something my brother was saying, when we got into an argument on something islamic, and i said one thing and he said another, then i got the proof for my argument, and he still was arguing with me really harshly. So I went to my room and I opened the Quran to a random page, and I forgot what surah it was, but it basically said to fight for whats right, even with your own kin.

And it made me laugh :]

"By time,
Indeed all of mankind is in a state of loss,
Except those who have eemaan,
Conduct righteous actions,
Call each other to the Truth,
And call each other to having patience." ( Quran 103)

Surah Al asr. It means a lot to me and its such a short and sweet Surah. It bascially just sums up what mankind needs. Believe and good deeds for the sake of Allah. and that we should urge one another to truth and patience

Long live islam. Long live peace

Surah Al-Room

I love this Surah and I listen to it often. I think it's because it's like an awakening to all the signs of Allah that are actually rather obvious if you would just stop and think about them.

(19) And of His signs is this: He created you of dust, and behold you human beings, ranging widely! (20) And of His signs is this: He created for you helpmeets from yourselves that ye might find rest in them, and He ordained between you love and mercy. Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who reflect. (21) And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the difference of your languages and colours. Lo! herein indeed are portents for men of knowledge. (22) And of His signs is your slumber by night and by day, and your seeking of His bounty. Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who heed. (23) And of His signs is this: He showeth you the lightning for a fear and for a hope, and sendeth down water from the sky, and thereby quickeneth the earth after her death. Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who understand. (24) And of His signs is this: The heavens and the earth stand fast by His command, and afterward, when He calleth you, lo! from the earth ye will emerge.
