Whenever I wanted to please people....

I laughed and they said 'Won't you have some shame!'
I cried and they said 'Won't you smile?'

I smiled and they said 'He only shows off!'
I frowned and they said, 'What he hides has come out'

I was silent and they said 'Incoherent'
I spoke and they said 'He talks too much!'

I bore patience and they said 'What a coward
And were he to have power he'd surely punish!'

I was brave and they said 'He strikes with it
And were he to rule, he'd surely be reckless!'

They say 'wierd!' when I disagree
And call me 'opportunistic' when I agree

So I became certain that whenever I wanted to please people,
I am to be criticised.

SubhanAllah this is so true! jazakAllahu khayran. and a reminder: we should always try to please Allah instead of people because like the above poem they will criticize you either way, so why not turn to Allah to please him - he won't criticize you and will understand your sincerety. Sure, this what a muslem should do, but this depends on faith(Iman ) when it is high then it is very easy to have such intention but when faith is weak hearts are directed to other than Allah :astag: We should care about faith,and make it grow.

as I read the poem and when i rached the end, My mind started telling me some more to this poem, My mind did not stop, it continued like this.

So i stop pleasing people,
I TURNED to please my creator.


And yes I know
HE will NEVER critisice me
He is the one ,My creator
who knows all about me.
and still they say.
He is a "stupid".
they will never stop criticising.

there is one story also about Luqman (as) and his son.

one day, both of them were going with their donkey on the road.

1. when Luqman (as) sat on donkey and son walking, ppl told that father is hard-hearted, so kindness for son.

2. when son was riding, ppl told that son is ungrateful to father.

3. when both were riding on donkey, ppl told that they dont have mercy on an animal.

4. and when none of them were on donkey, ppl told that father-son are mad..they have an animal to ride on but they are walking.

may Allah make us to please Him and not ppl. Ameen

Subhanallah! that it is why it always good to please your creator because He is the One who provide for you and also He is the One who is going to take your soul, to Him shall you return. what is the point in trying to please people to the extend of displeasing the Creator?
