Who is better and more accepted to Allah Taala

We judge people through many standards. However, the judgement of Allah Taala is as said by Him, Meaning: Surely the noblest of you, in Allah’s sight, is the one who is most pious of you. Surely Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware. [Sura Hujurat: 13]

In one occasion, someone was passing by Beloved Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam; Beloved Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam asked a person, who was sitting beside him – (pointing the passer-by) what do you think of him? The man replied – he is a from an aristocratic family; highly dignified. If he offers marriage in any family, it would be accepted; if he intercedes for any purpose, it would be accepted. Listening to this reply Beloved Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam kept silent. Just after some time, another person was passing by. Beloved Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam asked the sitting-person beside him about this passer-by. Now he replied – this man is among the poor Muslims. His situation is such that if he proposes marriage somewhere, it won’t be accepted and if he intercedes for something, it won’t be granted and if he tells something if won’t be heeded. Upon listening to the reply, Beloved Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam said – if the whole land of this earth fills up with men like the previous one, yet this poor man – alone is better than him (the previous).

The commentators of Hadith has said that by the explicit words of the Hadith it is clear both the passers-by where Muslim. However, the position they had in the society differed. The first person was affluent and ahead in worldly position; however, in good deeds and piety the second was ahead though poor. The man to whom Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam had inquired regarding the passers-by was unaware of their status in the court of Allah Taala. Possibly therefore, Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam corrected the understanding by clarifying the true status. [Maa'riful Hadith: Mawlana Manzoor Numani (R)]

We often make wrong judgement regarding people. We pay attention to the outward conditions. We see the wealth, education, beauty a person possesses, we count the honor and acceptance of the society as the standard. However, we totally ignore Taqwa - piety, good deeds and piousness, which are the invaluable and eternal wealth a man could possess, and only yardstick set by Allah Taala for His judgement.
