Fatimah Bint Asad (r.a.a) was the mother of Ali bin Abu Talib. Abdul Muttalib the grand father of Muhammad (s.a.w) assessed her nature , her intelligence and her capabilities from the very beginning ( as her lineage was Hashmi),proposed for her his son . Beside Ali, she had two more sons named Jafar Tayyar (who was famous General ) and Aqeel (r.a.a).

Our prophet Muhammad (saw) was an orphan child, his father died before his birth ,his mother also died when he was very young. His paternal uncle Abu Talib adopted him and took great care of him .Abu Talib's wife Fatimah (r.a.a) looked after Muhammad (s.a.w) like her own son, she protected him and stood by him in thick and thin.

When Muhammad(s.a.w) proclaimed himself the last prophet, she was first to swear allegiance to Islam and its concept of the oneness of Allah (a.j). All the relentless persecution did not deter her in any way , she faced the economic and social boycott of Shi'ab Abu Talib, for three terrible years.

She would go hungry to feed him (s.a.w),she loved him as her own child and did not spare any pains and looked after him in infancy, boyhood and youth. He (s.a.w) called her "mother".

She was exceptionally fond of her son Jafar (r.a.a) but for the sake of Islam she bore the separation from him and his wife when they migrated along with the first group to Abysiniah on the command of the prophet Muhammad (s.a.w).

When Muhammad (s.a.w) started spreading Islam openly ,the Kuffar of Makkah resorted to the most cruel and sadistic forms of torture to make the reverts give up their new faith and return to their earlier faith. It was only the power and influence of Abu Talib that prevented them from doing any harm to Muhammad(s.a.w).No enemy could dare to do anything to him as long as he was under the mantle of his uncle's protection.

Fatimah (r.a.a) too cooperated with her husband wholeheartedly and took great care as she was a mother pure and simple where the safety and well being of Muhammad (s.a.w) was concerned.

Considering the dangerous situation in Makkah , Muhammad (s.a.w) commanded the muslims to migrate to Abysiniah as the ruler was known to be tolerant and hospitable. The leader of this first group of migrants was Jaafar bin Abu Talib brother of Ali (peace be upon them both), the favorite son of Fatimah (r.a.a). She loved him as he was extremely intelligent and he resembled Muhammad (s.a.w).

The Quraish now decided to restrict the muslims to one small area, besiege them and boycott them socially and economically which was called Shi'ab Abu Talib. It continued for three years ,which was born by muslims with great hardship, they ate grass, leaves and leathers to ease the pangs of hunger. Fatimah bint Asad(r.a.a) also bore these hard ship with patience. During which Khadijah (r.a.a) the wife of Muhammad (s.a.w) passed away followed by his uncle Abu Talib, this year was called the Year of Sorrow, in islamic

history.

The torture and torment and cruelties reached its peak when Allah (swa) finally ordered his prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) to migrate to Al Madinah and Fatimah (r.a.a) was among them.
When Muhammad (saw) daughter married Ali (r.a.a), there were two Fatimahs in the house,
one mother in law and another daughter in law.

One day the prophet (saw) gave Ali (r.a.a) a long sheet of cloth and said to divide it among the Fatimahs. At that time there were four Fatimahs in the house.

1.Fatimah bint Asad
2. Fatimah bint Muhammad (saw)
3.Fatimah bint Hamza (daughter of his uncle)
4.Fatimah bint Shaibah (wife of Aqeel bin Abu Talib)

(peace be upon them all)
and Ali (r.a.a) divided the cloth as was told by the prophet (saw) among the four Fatimahs in his family.

When the prophet came to know about the death of Fatimah bint Asad (r.a.a) he came to her house prayed for her and gave his shirt to be used as part of her shroud, saying he prayed to allah (a.j) to forgive her and give her the dress of paradise.

When the grave was prepared the prophet (saw) himself examined it and with his own hand placed her in the grave.

She was a great lady for whom he gave the glad news that she will be in Jannah.
