why have the Muslims forsaken this Sunnah?

Why have the Muslims forsaken i’tikaaf, even though it is the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)? What is the purpose of i’tikaaf?:tti_sister:

to the weakness of faith in many hearts or increased focus on worldly pleasures and desires, which leads to an inability to keep away from them even for a short time.???

Being away from the Quran and Sunnah is the reason for it .It doesn't apply on all as some may have busy work life or family to look around,or people like me who have to look around parents who are usually sick.(My mom is Asthma patient so have to look around her all day).

Many sisters would love to do i'tikaaf where I am. However our local masajid only provide facilities for the MEN. And since women can't do their i'tikaaf on home, they have to either go hunting for a masjid that's suitable for them or try to find another option (of which there are none).

Also, for example, many masajid here only remain open for one or two nights (I.e. The 27th). There are many who want to do it for more than that time, so it's not feasible for them.

Alhamduli Allah, we have the masajids open for the last 10 days and plus many mosques have facilities for women. And many of our brothers do itkaaf, subhan Allah.

Islam is a way of life
Oh my gosh ALhamdulilah this topic came up. I have some questions:

1) How long does one stay in the Masjid for i’tikaaf?
2) If One is there at night, is eating or sleeping permissable?
3) I've read some women dont have a way to do this, can a husband and wife go in together?

1)The person performing I’tikaf must stay in this state for a minimum of three complete days from sunrise of the first day until the sunset of the third day (for example if he starts I’tikaf on Monday at Fajr time, he must complete it until Thursday at Maghrib time)
2) of course but the food has to be provided by someone i think. you can't buy or sell when you are performing i,tikaaf
3) Deriving pleasure from the opposite sex in any way – holding hands, hugging, kissing, etc… is completely forbidden in the state of I’tikaf.

Umm.. What's i'tikaaf? :/

I'tikaaf is for a person to confine himself to the masjid in obedience to Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) so as to separate himself from the people and free himself (from the chores of daily life) to exert himself in worshipping Allaah. This can take place in any masjid, whether it is a masjid in which people gather for the Jumu'ah prayer or not. However, it is better (to perform the i'tikaaf) in a masjid in which the people gather for the Jumu'ah prayer so that one performing i'tikaaf is not forced to leave the masjid (in which he is doing i'tikaaf) to go to another masjid for the Jumu'ah prayer.

The Prophet(SAW)'s wives observed I’tikaf in their apartments.

A woman may also perform I’tikâf in her home by setting aside a specified place for ibâdah and performing therein such I’tikâf. However, it is necessary for her to obtain her husband’s consent for such I’tikâf. Moreover, it is essential that she is not in a state of menstruation and nifâs.

A woman may observe I'tikaf in that area of her house which has been designated for salah. She cannot leave that place without a valid excuse.
(Shami, vol.2 pg.441 ; Tahtawi, pg.382)

Question:

Is it permissible for a woman to perform i'tikaaf at the place of prayer in her home?

Response:

No. If a woman wishes to perform i'tikaaf, then she should do so in a masjid, so long as there is no danger in that (such as free-mixing and complacency regarding the hijaab, etc). (However), if there is any danger in that, then she should not perform i'tikaaf.

and what about the fact that the wives of Rasullullah SAW performed It'tikaaf in their homes?
is the fataawa of the Sheikh more weighty than their sunnah?

and what about the fact Prophet (saw) married 9 wives, why do we have to marry only 4?

Firstly, not everything they did was ok for us to do also.

secondly, i like to see more evidence on this that you say from reliable sources.

^ To the above, there's actually difference in the madhhabs about whether a woman can or cannot do itikaaf at home or in the masjid. I've seen it in one of brother the_truth's posts - two of the madhhabs say its permissable for the woman to do it at home, and two say its wrong to do so.

BECAUSE, in that issue, there is a clear command in the Quran that we shuld not marry more than 4 wives.

then i'll say you are ignorant. You cannot claim to have scholars in your area more learned when you don't even know the man you are comparing them to.

I heard what Tabassum07 said and i'll leave it that...
