Assalamu Alaikum

These things have not much importance in islam and it is been around in the discussion forums for a long time. It is true that it is better to use Muhammed instead of Mohd. But we are less cared on using Asslm Alkm or salaam instead of Assalamu Alaikum while prophet asked us to wish using Assalamu Alaikum(minimum)

As a Muslim we are obliged (The Quran asks the believers to confirm) to verify any news (Ofcourse mails also ) before acting upon such information.

"O Believers, if an unrighteous person comes to you with information, you should verify it or else you might inflict harm on a people in ignorance and then end up regretting what you have done." The Holy Qur'an, Chapter 49, Verse 6

So, we cannot take any information as granted, but we have obligation to cross check before it pass on… (Even in the mails that comes with verse number, as there are lot of perverts around to malign our relegion.

As on the mail about the topic

I have also looked in three dictionaries(wordweb, dictionary.com,merriam-webster) for these terms I couldn't see any similar meaning in any of the dictionaries. It is very easy to trick a muslim nowadays. We have to remember a basic rule that the information found in the internet are most often are junks with some specific intentions, even the technical information's. They used to put in the net for different purposes. From, some want to deviate people by giving wrong information To others who simply want to get some google page ranks to their website.

Question: I heard that the etymology of the English spelling "Mecca" means "bar house". I heard that the only proper spelling of the city is Makkah. Is this true?

Answered by the Fatwa Department Research Committee - chaired by Sheikh `Abd al-Wahhâb al-Turayrî ( former professor at al-Imâm University in Riyadh)

"Mecca" is the standard English spelling for the name of the city in Western Arabia. This is the correct and only etymology of the word.

Since around 1850, the word "mecca" (with a lower case m) is sometimes used in English for any destination that people hold dear, sacred or highly desirable, especially if they are willing to travel to and assemble at such places. This is a customary and standard English usage and is permitted for Muslims to use the world in this way when they are speaking English.

The word is not used – and to our knowledge has never been used – to refer to a place of drinking, contrary to some recent rumors to that effect.

A more recent Roman-letter transliteration from the Arabic is "Makkah". This Roman-letter rendering of the city's name employs academic norms of transliteration from Arabic into English. The pronunciation is virtually identical. The difference is of purely academic interest. This spelling is used in academic treatises whenever a specific and uniform system of indications for Arabic letters is needed. It is not regarded in English as being a spelling for general use.

There is no reason at all for people writing in English to shy away from the spelling "Mecca".

And Allah knows best.

Don't say "Mosque"

Say always "Masjid"

Because Islamic organization has found thats mosque = mosquitoes

Don't write " Mecca "

Write always correctly "Makkah"

Because Mecca = house of wines

Don't write "Mohd"

Write always completely as "Muhammad"

Becasue Mohd = the dog with big mouth.
