Salam,

My name is Kylie and I am a new revert living in Australia. I took my Shahada last Friday.
I have so much to learn. I am spending as much time as I can each day, learning and reading about Islam. I am a single mother, so it is a new change of routine and structure to the day, for not only myself, but also my three year old son.
There doesnt seem to be any Mosques or Muslim centers, for hundreds of kilometers from where I live, so I am very grateful for sites like this one. I wonder if there are maybe some Australian Muslims online that, may be able to point me towards some places I could get support from? I really need some help with Salaat, and would love to find somewhere I could purchase some books. Can anyone help? I would like to be praying away from the sight of the computer at some point soon. It doesnt feel very right.
I am reading a library loaned copy of the Qur'an, and I am finding its message resonates with me, more strongly, everyday. It is truly a beautiful book. I feel very honoured to have found the truth at last.
I have so many questions and comments that I would like to make, but felt I should introduce myself to begin with. I have already learnt a great deal from this site, and hope I have something that i can offer here in the future.

Dear Kylie, I am so happy for you. You are indeed very brave to do this , I mean learning the qoran on your own. I do hope you wil get help from our sisters or brothers there. You need someone to guide you from now, learning to sollat, reading the qoran verses the right way, because arabic has many different sound and meanings. Lastly becareful what you eat, read the labels thoroughly, ... assalammualaikum..

A lot of what you say in your post is true, and I could certainly do with some guidance in salaat and pronunciation of Arabic. Inshallah. I am sure I will read the Qur'an many times in my lifetime, and I am sure each day I will get closer towards reading it in the right way.
I am looking after my diet. Most of the things in my diet, dont have labels, so I don't think there are any real hidden haraam things that I could be mistakenly eating. I will keep an eye on it though.

Its better to find and take one person as your teacher for now, as too many peole advising you will confuse you. Maybe if you contacted a sister Samiha she is a Admin on TTI and take her as a personal step by step tutor insha-allah.

Alhamdulillah 1000's of people will rush to advise you to do this to do that all seeking pleasure of Allah.

I am so delighted you have embraced islam.

If you like take sis Samiha off TTI as a teacher for now as what you should do is learn enough to enable yourself to practice Islam properly; and to protect yourself from incorrect beliefs; or even Shirk (associating partners with Allaah; which is unforgivable without repentance).

As Take her as a teacher to help you learn the basics etc.. This will help avoid any confussion.

If you're not blessed enough to have a good community; and a good sound masjid or centre close to you; then MashaAllaah you have us here at TTI

Please read the Articles and posts by Moderators on this site with the sole aim of learning Islamic knowledge ['ilm] from them. Be vary of other sites over the internet as they may share/serve a similar purpose; in sharing knowledge or even meeting like-minded brothers. I use them for in a limited capacity myself; to rely on them for genuine authentic Islamic knowledge; is a mistake.

Knowledge cant be taken from any site that comes up in Google and ‘going with it’; I know it sounds funny but I have seen this done. However I’m sure we all know that the way Google works is on what is most popular; not what is most authentic. Just as I am sure you wouldn’t diagnose yourself with an illness; via a page you found on Google; you wouldn’t take knowledge of the religion of al-Islam from any old page. Thankyou to everyone that has replied to welcome me. Its very nice. I will try to remember you all in my duas.......And I am sure we will all catch up on the forum.

I have to tell you all about how my trip to town went yesterday. I have been thinking about wearing the hijab, but i have been most afraid of the reactions I would get. I have always been very friendly to all the shopkeepers that I buy from, for a long time, and it has been imagining their reactions that has really made me afraid. Anyway, yesterday when I was doing the shopping, I told a few people that I have reverted to Islam. I was so shocked by the positive responses I recieved, that I dont think I have any excuse to not wear the Hijab. So many people, who i never expected to react the way they did, said what a beautiful religion it is. So many people were supportive (except one old guy in the library who thought I was crazy for becoming a muslim....quite obvious the media has got to him) I am astonished. I actually have not thought my praying has been going so well. But Allah has answered my prayers and has shown me again that this is definitely the path I am meant to be taking. Allahu Akbar!
I have been quite nervous, that I have no Muslim community near to me, but perhaps I am meant to be the first. Really, I feel strong enough to be the only custodian of Islam in the place where I live. I even reckon there is potential for the religion to grow where i am......Inshallah
Somebody told me when I first became a Muslim, that for every step that I take towards Allah, he will take two towards me......and he does you know!

I am very happy to be sharing this good news with you all. My next step is to find a Hijab. If anyone can help, please do.

Thanks for having me as part of the community. Thankyou for all the links and files that some of you have shared with me. Hopefully i get a chance to take a look soon.
