"Verily, this (the Qur'an) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil). And it is not a thing for amusement."...
{Surah At-Tariq 86: Verses13-14}
.
Allah says that the Qur'an is not at all useless speech, but it leads one to decisive action. In other words, when we learn the Qur'an, we shouldn't be acting like "Oh, that was interesting!" and then we go back home and nothing changes.
.
Sadly and unfortunately, many of us (may Allah protect us from becoming one) have turned the Qur'an into entertainment. We've turned listening to the recitation of Qur'an into entertainment. We've turned the khutbah, classes, ilm seminars into entertainment. They have been reduced to just becoming something fun to do or participate. Of course we're not guilty for enjoying them, but they should be taken as something more serious.
.
Don't reduce them into "Oh when's the next big convention? When's the next great speech?" The point is that the Qur'an is not about casual listening, but it's about taking decisive actions. When Qur'an enters our hearts, there should be significant changes in us. I think this is very relevant to all sincere ilm-seekers. This is a reminder to self foremost.
