confused

today i was doing a group prayer with some brothers for maghrib. the farj we did 3 rakaat. after that, 3 of us prayed sunnah and the other 2 prayed something else.. the first 3 prayed independently and silently and the other 2 prayed together... so is there two different ways to pray maghrib???

same thing happened with zuhr too

Assalaamu alaykum
maybe the two others were praying 'asr because they couldnt pray it before maghrib (they didnt have time?)
