CONFUSION OVER BLOOD MONEY

I hope evryone is fine with best of health and faith.....

Can someone enlighten me about Blood money. as to who are the parities and wat is it all about. does ir constitute a form of interest or usury because i came across an hadith and i dont understand quite well.
interest being haraam it states

"If any of them does an injury involving blood-money, he and those who are with him in the kitaba are asked to pay all the blood-money of that injury. If they pay, they are confirmed in their kitaba. If they do not pay, and they are incapable then their master has an option. If he wishes, he can pay all the blood-money of that injury and all the slaves revert to him. If he wishes, he can surrender the one who did the injury alone and all the others revert to being his slaves since they could not pay the blood-money of the injury which their companion caused."

the stated hadith is taken from Malik :: Book 39 : Hadith 39.4.6

Ummmmm- I'm not exactly sure what blood money is- isn't it when you get payed to kill someone

Or, if you killed someone by accident, I think we should pay for their burial\ funeral

May Allah protect us all.Ameen.

when a person kills someone, the family of victim can either choose death of killer or blood money. but death penalty only when a person was killed intentionally.

blood money is given by killer to the victim's family to save his life.
