Asalamualikum,
Being an American, learning about Islam, the culture behind this, has opened my eyes to the 'natural' sins that non-Muslims encounter on a daily basis.
For example, dating in forms of cohabitating, is common. When the 'couple' gets tired of each other, after a year or more, they end their relationship, and search for another to 'please' their needs, for whatever reason.
In the Muslim way, one does not date, nor have any physical contact until a formal Engagement and Marriage takes place.
When I witness this happening, there is nothing that can really back this 'sinful' lifestyle, except from what God/Allah has declared for all of us to follow.
It is the moral guidance of God/Allah that those families can adhere to by their examples of following the Islamic law.
So my conclusion is not necessarily 'culture' but one's strong conviction that the 'right' way to live is to follow the strict guidelines of Islam, which produces a 'freedom' of doing right at all times...through prayer 5 times a day, through modesty, through non-mixed parties, (so prevelant in American ways), through no alchohol, (which lowers one's moral conduct), etc.
There is substance to consider when living a moral life, that Islam is truly the way that totally backs this up. Alhamdulillah!
Sallam
