"Honor Killing"

Praise be to Allah (The Glorified and Exalted).

"Honor Killing," usually this is the phrase that is used to refer to killings of women of Central Asian or Arab ethnicity by male members of their household. This phrase is also at times used to refer to killings of women by men that are strangers, but have attacked a woman based upon an idea that the women are behaving in a manner not suitable to their role in society. This phrase "Honor Killing" was coined by "womens' rights" groups that operate in Central Asia and Arab nations, in an attempt to bring the attention of the western world to crimes against women in Arab and Central Asian societies. Therefore, this vintage statement "Honor Killing" appears in the coverage of the western press every time an Arab or woman from Central Asia is attacked by a man. However, one notices that this type of crime takes place around the world, especially in the west (among the white race), but is covered via different "terms." For example, one hears about an "angry" father killing his daughter, or a "jealous" or "bitter" husband/boyfriend killing their partner. These crimes in the west vary from a former boyfriend going to the place of work of his ex-girlfriend and burning her alive with gasoline and a lighter to a man that shoots a woman because she refused to accept his "advances," to father's killing their daughters for various reasons, etc. The reason the crimes are covered by different "terms" has to do with the reality that the western societies no longer use phrases such as "shame" and "honor." This mentality, one of "shame" and "honor," was prevalent in the past, before World War II, but was eventually replaced as these nations changed their perceptions about life.

And Allah (The Glorified and Exalted) Knows Best.
