Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Among the population of the World, more than 99% of people believe in God. Almost all religions talk about a Super Power. There are exceptions too. The Buddhism is silent about God. But other major religions are preaching about God and advising the followers to fear God and to abide by His orders and safeguard the Human Value.

Teachings of Islaam say that believing in Allaah should be according to the Scriptures, not in accordance with any other source. We are not expected to give a sort of definition to God (Allaah) and follow whatever the definitions the scholars are telling us.

Most importantly, we should understand and get ourselves clarify that even the Scholars are not allowed to give a definition to God. The definition should come from God Himself, meaning through Scriptures, the word of God.

I would like to recall the incident happened to the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wasallam (Peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) at the cave of Hira. It was in the Night of Power (Lailathul Qadr) that he received first revelation from the Almighty. The Ayath was brought to him by an angel. He was afraid. After the incident he rushed home and asked his wife Kathija radhiyallaahu anhaa (May Allaah be please with her) to cover him. He was sweating and shivering. On her insistence, he told what had happened in the cave.

The Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wasallam did not know what was it and who came to him. He was at a loss. He was really afraid of the one who came and asked to recite. His wife consoled him and told that he should not worry as he was so good with his relatives, neighbours and the fellow inhabitants and therefore God will protect him.

She did not stop there, she suggested that they would go and explain everything to her cousin Waraqath ibn Naufal as he learned the scriptures. On their arrival, he (Waraqa) having heard everything consoled the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wasallam and told that the one who came to him was the Naamoos (Jibreel – Gabrail), the Angel who came to Musa alaihissalaam (May Peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and what he brought was the Word of Allaah. Allaah, the Almighty had chosen him (Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) as His prophet.

Because, He, Waraqa, knew the Scriptures he could clarify what it was! As the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wasallam did not know any Scriptures reavealed before he could not understand what it was at the time of first revelation

And later, Allaah clarified His status throughout the Al-Qur’an. The Surathul Ikhlaas (Ch.112) is the pinnacle of all of them that talk about Oneness of God (Allaah).

Say, (O Muhammad) He is Allaah (the) One.
Allaah, the Eternal, Absolute.
He begetteth not, nor is He begotten.
And there is none like unto Him

Therefore, it is our obligation to read Qur’an again and again and again to enhance our knowledge in Allaah and His Wisdom, and His Power.

May Allaah forgive all of us our sins and guide us on the straight path.

Wassalaam
