A flight was on its way to Los Angeles when one of its pilots came and said "I'm sorry to inform you that one of the flight's engines has stopped functioning. “This is no cause for concern because we have three more engines. However, the flight will just be delayed by an hour".

Shortly afterwards, the pilot reappears and says "I'm terribly sorry, but a second engine on this plane has stopped functioning. There is no danger; this plane can fly quite normally on two engines. However, the flight will now be delayed for two hours." After about twenty minutes, the pilot comes and says "I'm afraid that the third engine has stopped functioning as well, but we have one more engine functioning well. The flight will just be delayed for a couple of hours more."

A passenger at the back of the flight turns to another passenger and says angrily "I hope that last engine doesn't stop functioning! We'll be stuck here all day!"

Well i think its not humorous because its possible to fly even though any of the engines fail. If out of 4 engines, even 3 engines on flight fail, the control of the aircraft gets a bit difficult but still its possible to continue flying, so its not so dangerous. Although the flight should be brought from high altitude to a lower altitude and certain necessary and precautionary measures are taken.
Emergency conditions exist when atleast 1 engine is working. Even if all 4engines (in case of 4 engine aircraft) fail, then the aircraft flies like a glider under emergency conditions, but it cannot fly for a long time. There was such a case couple of years back where the pilots flew the aircraft to the destination and landed with none of the engines working. Although the airport was near. The pilots were awarded later.
