I'm A Swan

~Naz~

Allahu Akbar
Collected words and wrote a poem

I’m A Swan

As I grew up over the years,
You told me I was ugly duckling,
But I wanted to be beautiful,
just so I could please you.

I put on your make-up,
and wore your short skirts.
I gave my life, my body, my dignity,
Just to be amongst the pretty too.

I knew that no matter what I did,
I was worthy to the degree,
that I could only satisfy, please,
and be beautiful for my boss.

I spent my life on the cover of magazines,
and gave my body for you to sell,
you told me I was free,
but I was indeed a slave at a loss.

I was your object,
you swore it was success,
You taught me that my purpose in life,
was to be for your display.

You had me believe,
that my body was created,
to just market your fancy cars.
You lied to me every single day.

Islam however tells me, I'm a swan.
I'm different - it's how it’s meant to be,
And my body, my soul, my mind,
was created for something much more.

So I am extremely honored,
That my value as a woman ,
Is neither measured by the size of my waist,
nor by the number of men who do adore.

My worth as a woman is measured
On a much higher scale,
a scale of righteousness…
a scale of submission … a scale of piety.

My purpose in life,
is something more sublime,
than just looking good for men,
For I'm here to please The One and only Diety.

And so He tells me to cover myself,
to protect my beauty,
to safeguard my body,
and show it just to the man I wed.

To those who wish to 'liberate' me,
I have only one thing to say:
My body is not for public consumption.
'Thanks, but no thanks.' I will pass instead!

I refuse to be reduced to an object,
or a pair of legs to sell shoes.
For I'm a soul, I’m a mind,
I am a servant of the Almighty God.

With my veil, I put my faith on display.
View me only for what I am.
I submit only to Allah, my creator,
To attain heavenly abode!
