Salaam3alaikum..
What advice would you give to a muslim brother/sister who has been abusing his/her soul (going after worldly pursuits and all there is in it) and eventually realizing his grave mistake. So he/she turns to Allah *swt* for repentance and to amend and change his/her life and live in accordance to the Deen.
But the problem arises is that since his/her soul has been tarnished for so long, despite he/she believes in One God and Worships Him , he/she is bothered by waswaasa (evil whispers) even to the point where he/she feels he/she is becoming a polytheist.
Eventually after talking to a well versed brother, he/she realized that it will take time to make amends, you just cant become all religious within a day, as it takes time and patience and in due time by staying on the right track the waswaasa would also go away.
But when it came to asking the brother about how one should approach the matter, the brother seemed to be preoccupied with his responsibilities. Upon approaching the imam of his/her mosque , the imam simply said "Say the Kalimah and increase Dhikr" ... as true as the solution sounds, it is not something one would want to hear ? For example if a patient went to a doctor and found out that he had cancer and all the doctor tells him is "Chemotherapy , pain killers and medication will be prescribed for you" how can that be a sense of relief ? Wouldn't the patient want to know how to deal with the cancer in his daily life ? The steps he should take to slowly accept the condition, grow stronger and eventually battle it and conquer it?
To make things simple ... what practical steps should one take to combat, strengthen and overcome oneself.
So far the brother/sister has been given the advice of being steadfast in prayers and focus from that point on. Any PRACTICAL tips from brothers and sisters here, who (i am sure) have gone through the same problems and have lived another day to share knowledge about it.
:salam2:
And thanks in advance for any time invested reply
