Ok this is an old news article but went under my nose completely. Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje A Dutchman captured a collection of photographs in Makkah dating back to 1885. What amazed me most wasn't actually the collection, but the recording of the Qur'an he captured using a cylinder phonograph (not sure if it's same date but have been told so)... Amazing sound, is it recorded so long ago, I guess not. Sound technology cae in 1900s.

the recitation is just amazing. may Allah have mercy on him who was reciting.
