The blessed month of Ramadan has once again embraced us. It offers us a comprehensive program for our spiritual overhaul and an opportunity to strengthn our Iman purify our hearts and cleanse our souls from the evil effects of sin. It is a month of Allah's mercy forgiveness, and protection. it is the spring season for goodness and virtue!.
The Holy Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم has said: " Anyone who fasts during this month with purity of belief and expectation on a good reward (from Allah), will have his previous sins forgiven."
He صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم further said :" Anyone who stands in prayer during its nights with purity of belief and expectations of a reward, will have his previous sins forgiven."
The true benefits of fasting and Tarawih salah, are dependent on " purity of belief" and " expectation of a good reward." Fasting is an expression of submission, love, and anticipation. we must guard against complaining, ... against viewing Ramadan as an unfair imposition, a burdensome activity designed to make Muslims suffer!
Sabr is the hallmark of this month. remember that the Battle of Badr was fought in heat of the Arabian Desert , during the very month of ramadan. the blessed month is the time for striving, sacrifice, and for proving our commitment unto Allah
The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم has said: " There are those who get nothing from their fast but hunger and thirst. There are those who get nothing from their nightly prayer but loss of sleep" Our garb , conduct and activity must not transform the spring season of virtue into the winter of vice!
We need to spend as much time as possible in the confines of the Masjid or in the path of Allah. this may well be our last Ramadan. Do not neglect its obligations thinking that you will reform in the future. Nabi صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said:" Most people are deceived by two favours: health and spare time." we may not have health or the time in the future to harvest from the spring season of goodness and virtue.
Ramadan is a unique oppertunity to gain proximity to Allah, and to "charge our spiritual batteries."
