Sadaqa or Supporting Corruption

I am still shaken. Just 3 hours ago, I was stopped by a street district officer for using the bus lane as a short cut. I panicked a bit because it was my FIRST time to be stopped for street violation. I honestly didn't know that that was illegal.

I didn't want the hassle of paying a fine in the city hall, so as what most people here do, I negotiated. In addition to my convincing skills, I tipped the officer with a relatively nice sum of money.

My intention was: to partly help the family of the officer (he needs it) and partly to keep my clean record.

Now, can that be considered sadaqa... even partially or am I just rationalizing and supporitng corruption?:shymuslima1: *needs to ease guilt

Assalaam walaikum,

Sister...stop shaking. It is over now.

I can not help you. In the States when I get pulled over..I am quiet...I hand over the license and registration/insurance. I sign the ticket and I thank the officer and leave as quickly as I am able. If not the fine gets larger.
