Bismillah,

Assalamualykum

As we all know that we have come into the month of Dhul Hijjah, it is highly recommended to fast as much as we can during this month Insha'Allah. Especially next Thursday and Friday. Eid will fall on Saturday next week Insha'Allah.....may Allah bestow His Barakah on us all Ameen.

You may find the following interesting and useful Insha'Allah:

The First Ten Days of Dhu'l-Hijjah

The first ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah are days that Allah has preferred over all the other days of the year. Ibn ‘Abbaas (radi'Allahu anhu) reported that the Prophet :saw: said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." The people asked, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allah?" He said, "Not even jihaad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing." (Bukhaari)

The Prophet :saw: also said: "There are no days more loved to Allah for you to worship Him therein than the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. Fasting any day during it is equivalent to fasting one year and to offer salatul Tahajud (late night prayer) during one of its nights is like performing the late night prayer on (Lilatulqadr) the night of power" (Tirmidhi)

These ten days include the days of sacrifice and the days of Hajj of which one is Yawm ‘Arafaah (the Day of ‘Arafaah), on which Allah perfected His Religion.

So what should I do in these ten days?

1) Dhikr

‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Umar (radi'Allahu anhu) reported that the Prophet :saw: said: "There are no days greater in the sight of Allah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahleel ("La ilaaha ill-Allaah"), Takbeer and Tahmeed." Ahmad

Men should recite these phrases out loud, and women should recite them quietly. All should recite them individually.

In addition to an abundance of dhikr at all times, we should do takbeer after the (five) obligatory prayers, beginning from Dawn (Fajr) on the Day of 'Arafah (9th Dhul-Hijjah) [1] until 'Asr on the last day of the days of Tashreeq (13th of Dhul-Hijjah).

Say ‘Allahu akbar, allahu akbar, la illaha illallah, allahu akbar, allahu akbar, wa lillahil hamd’, three times after each prayer.

2) Fasting

It is Sunnah to fast on the ninth day of Dhu’l-Hijjah. Abu Qataadah reports that the Prophet :saw: said: "Fasting the Day of 'Arafah (9th of Dhul-Hijjah) will be credited with Allah by forgiving one's sins of the previous year and the following year.” (Muslim)

"No servant (of Allah Most High) fasts one day in the way of Allah, except that Allah Most High removes his face from the fire because of it seventy years." (Bukhari and Muslim).

3) Good deeds in general

Praying (salah), especially tahajjud (see hadith at top), reading Qur’an, making supplication (du’a), giving charity, being good to parents, smiling when greeting each other, giving gifts etc.

4) Sincere repentance

"But as for him who repented, believed and did righteous deeds, then he will be among those who are successful." [al-Qasas 28:67]

5) Sacrifice

The slaughtering of a sacrificial animal on the Day of Sacrifice (10th) and the Days of Tashreeq (11th, 12th and 13th) as is the Sunnah of Ibrahim (alayhis salaam)

6) Celebration of Eid in accordance to the laws of Allah and the sunnah of the Prophet :saw:

"So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it, And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom, shall see it." Zalzalah 99:7-8

Wassalaam
