The Islamic Way of Thinking

Praise be to Allah (The Glorified and Exalted).

The purpose of this life is to test man in regards to whether he will rightly submit to Allah (The Exalted) or follow his own opinions and desires. What the Muslim needs to know is that Allah is the Creator of all that exists. He is the All-Wise and completely Just to His creation. It is His Right to tell the creation to do or believe whatever He Wills. Mankind and the jinn race are the slaves of Allah (The Exalted and Sublime), meaning they are under His Ownership and in servitude to Him. It is not correct for a slave to decide which part of the religion he wants to follow. The distinction between love for Allah that a Believer possesses, in contrast to an unbeliever, is the demonstration of obedience to the Divine Laws. The story of Adam (peace be upon him) serves as an ample warning to the rest of mankind. Adam (peace be upon him) was not initially removed from Heaven after committing polytheism, murder, or for not loving Allah, but rather he showed disobedience and violated a dietary restriction, eating forbidden fruit. Therefore, when Allah, the King of kings, Decrees a matter, it is not appropriate for someone with limited knowledge, to talk nonsense about a subject, which the Creator has already settled. The distinction of the Muslim should be the following, “…Allah has endeared the Faith to you [Muslims] and has beautified it in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience (to Allah and His Messenger) hateful to you. These! They are the rightly guided ones” [49:7].

The Criterion for proper conduct and observance of right and wrong has been established by Allah (The Glorified and Exalted), “The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the Criterion (between right and wrong)…” [2:185]. There has arisen among mankind a group that believes they have better right to formulate via their opinions what is appropriate moral conduct. Amazingly, these individuals claim self-sufficiency from Allah (The Majestic), but have taken as their foundation for right and wrong the revelation and guidance of Allah and have altered it in places in which they feel it does not suit their desires and present circumstances. Their foundation of right and wrong has come from Allah (The Glorified) because these individuals have benefited from either being raised in a land or having had contact with other peoples that have generally accepted the differentiation of right and wrong based upon the monotheist scriptures. One can see the circumstances of the peoples that have never had prior contact with monotheist scriptures. This is best exemplified by the tribes that reserve themselves to living in the jungles of the Amazon or New Guinea. These individuals have never had contact with monotheist teachings. Therefore, it is no surprise that they roam around nude, without covering, because they have no prior knowledge of appropriate covering whilst in public. It also no surprise that some of these individuals engage in cannibalism, devouring the flesh of their deceased family members such as was done by the Kuru tribe of New Guinea. There are also numerous other examples such as the pre-Islamic Arabs of Arabia, engaging in female infanticide. If mankind had been left to itself in order to establish its own Criterion, it is evident that every nation or group of people would come to a different conclusion as to what is appropriate moral conduct. It is also the case that among each group of people, a nation’s perception of good and evil conduct alters, just as time alters. How can anyone rely on such a flimsy criterion, that is ever-changing? What is required is an established Criterion by which every man may be judged justly. This can only be accomplished through the revelation and guidance of Allah (The Glorified and Exalted).

Allah has created man in a world of trials and tests, and He has made Paradise the abode of His friends and beloved ones. Those who preferred His Pleasure over their own and preferred obedience to Him over their own physical comfort and desires. The Believer must realize that he must endure sacrifices in this life, “Allah hath purchased of the Believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the Garden (of Paradise)…” [9:111]. In contrast, Allah has made Hell the abode of those among His slaves who disobey Him and preferred their own whims and desires to the pleasure of their Lord.

“It is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allah and His Messenger to have any option about their decision: if any one disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he is indeed evidently on a wrong path.” [33:36]
