The Prophetic Seal:
The Seal of Prophethood is a birthmark which appears on the back of the final Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Seal was prophesized in ancient books to appear on the back of the final Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had the prophetic birthmark on his back between his shoulders. The Seal of Prophethood was an area of skin raised higher than the rest, about the size of a pigeon’s egg. There was no writing found upon the birthmark. The following hadith describe the Seal of Prophethood in detail:
As-Sa’ib b. Yazid reported:
… then I stood behind him [the Prophet] and I saw the Seal between his shoulders. [Muslim: Book 30: Hadith 5792]
Jabir b. Samura reported:
… And I saw the Seal near his [the Prophet’s] shoulder of the size of a pigeon’s egg and its color was the same as that of his body. [Muslim: Book 30: Hadith 5789]
