Umar RA and Cloak, Sword, Pants, Shirt, Crown & Shoes of Chosroes:
When Sa’ad ibn Abi Waqqas RA sent the cloak, sword, pants, shirt, crown and shoes of Chosroes to Umar after the battle of al-Qadisiyah, Umar looked at the people and the tallest and most well-built of them was Suraqah ibn Ja’tham al-Madlaj.
He said: “O Suraqah, get up and put these clothes on.” He stood up and put them on, and he hoped to keep them.
Umar said to him: “Walk over there,” so he walked away.
Then he said, “Come back,” so he came back.
Then he said: ”Excellent! A Bedouin from Banu Madlaj wearing the cloak, trousers, sword, belt crown and shoes of Chosroes. What a day, O Suraqah, when you are wearing some of the belongings of Chosroes. It will be an honor for you and your people. Take it off.”
So Suraqah took it off, and Umar said: “[O Allah], You withheld this from Your Messenger and Prophet (SAW), and he was dearer to You than me, and You withheld it from Abu Bakr, who was dearer to You than me, then You gave it to me. I seek refuge from You lest Your giving it to me be a test.” Then he wept until those who were with him felt sorry for him.
Then he said to Abdur-Rahman: “I urge you, sell it and share out (its price) before evening comes.”
