Some people on sites have been quoting from a book called Umdat al Salik. Some of the things they quote are questionable, and I'd never heard of this book previously.

Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a reputable source of Islam?

Thanks for your reply.
Some non Muslims are quoting from it, and using it as the only source of knowledge about Islam. Whenever any Muslim disagrees with something quoted, they say this book has been upheld by Al- Azhar.

One of the quotes given specified that a Muslim Arab is not allowed to marry a Muslim non Arab. I have never heard of this - and even Mohammed SAAS in his last sermon mentioned this specifically, that Arabs were not superior to non Arabs and vice versa. I agree with you about "agreeing to disagree" in a polite manner, of course - but what about something being said that you know for sure isn't true, shouldn't you point this out, politely and without insults or tantrums?
