Perhaps one of the main cause for the decline of all the Muslim Ummah has been the low literacy rate. Even the Islamic faith and fundamental requirement of knowledge of Sunnah and Quran is nominal. They lack the proper knowledge and even the simple and basic laws of Islam. Those who have been reading the books of Ahadiths have devoted their whole life in the study of Holy Quran. The term Fiqh means the knowledge of laws of Islam. This is vital and necessary for a Muslim as there are four basic sources for Sharia, i-e
  1. Quran,
  2. Sunnah,
  3. Ijma, and
  4. Qiyas
All these laws provide the basis for performing every action or task in the society.

At present, all people live in a very complex and advanced world and because of this reason, they are facing very complex problems .Some these issues are because of genetic engineering, allowing the eating of altered vegetables or cattle or fruits. Problems of these type of nature cannot be solved by the Shariah. For solving these problems, Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) was regarded as the fifth component of Shariah known as Ijtihad, that is an individual intellectual effort. The word Ijtihad is derived from the Arabic word of Jihad. It was once regarded as an important force in the articulation and in the interpretation of Shariah.

Ijtihad was replaced by the doctrine of taqlid or the blind imitation. Taqlid not only discourges the individual interpretation, instead it also prohibits as well. Some Muslim scholars all over tha ages have been protesting the prohibition of Ijtihad because it violates the true intention and spirit of Islam. Muslims used to day that Islam is applicable to all the time and places, but the question is that how can this be achieved without Ijtehad? For performing the Ijtihad, a Muslim man or woman need to be completely familiar with the sciences of Sunnah and Quran. Any Muslim with proper religious knowledge is able to do Ijtihad on certain matters.

Muslim scholars declared that the door of Ijtihad must be closed and laid down the orders that the future of Muslims must be to practice Taqlid. Some scholars were also of the view that the door of Ijtihad was closed because the Muslim Ummah was under attack for the external forces like the Crusades. In the past, number of Muslim scholars have been claimed to possess the right to Ijtihad. Today this calls for Ijtihad has become more consistent and louder as well. Most of the modern scholars demand that systematic reinterpretation of Islamic tradition by using the Hadith and Quran as a foundation.

The religion Islam has thrown its light on every aspect of life. It is not just a religious book instead it is a book that is a source of guidance for all mankind. It is obligatory for a Muslim to read and recite Holy Quran and become aware of all the teachings of Islam as well.
